“We have unfinished business” -Tyrese Proctor announces return to Duke for his sophomore season

Duke Blue Devils freshman Tyrese Proctor has announced that he's returning for his sophomore season. Proctor's return will make him one of the top returning players in college basketball for the 2023-24 season.

Heading into the 2022-23 NCAA season, he was generating buzz with his play in preseason camp for the Blue Devils. Initially expected to be a freshman for the 2023-24 season, Proctor shocked the basketball world when he decided to reclassify and join Duke a year early.

The Australian-born guard, who will turn 19 in April, is oozing with upside. Listed at 6'5", he has the size and raw upside to be a sensational floor general at the next level.

Despite an inconsistent freshman year, Proctor started to show serious signs of untapped potential. He's expected to be a breakout candidate for the 2023-24 season and will be projected as a lottery pick for the 2024 NBA draft.

The young player made his announcement official on social media, tweeting that Duke has "unfinished business."

The 2024 NBA draft class is expected to be one that could be a bit weaker when it comes to the incoming freshman class. This presents an intriguing opportunity for returning players such as Duke Blue Devils guard Tyrese Proctor.

Proctor averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game during his freshman season. He also shot 38.1% from the field and 32.0% from three-point range. What was most impressive was the growth in development Proctor showed throughout the year.

Playing his entire freshman season at the age of 18, Proctor was one of the youngest players in college basketball. He should be a name that could have a big offseason and will be a popular breakout candidate in NBA circles.

Scouts have been intrigued by Tyrese Proctor's raw set of tools on display during his first year with the Blue Devils. He showcased some sensational playmaking ability as well as some untapped ability as a shot creator and is a gifted defender who can be an asset on the defensive side of the ball given his impressive frame.

The Duke Blue Devils will be a team to monitor throughout the predraft process for the 2023 NBA draft. The team is expected to potentially lose big men Kyle Filipowski and Dereck Lively to the NBA draft.

If Proctor and fellow wing Mark Mitchell decide to return, the Blue Devils will have a pair of sophomores who could be in for a strong 2023-24 campaign.
