Where will Victor Wembanyama play? Looking at NBA teams with best chances at drafting 7’4” prodigy this summer

With Victor Wembanyama widely believed to be one of the best prospects in NBA history, it's no secret that the French star is poised to go first in the upcoming draft. In fact, heading into the season, with Wembanayama already making headlines for his stellar play overseas, NBA commissioner Adam Silver put teams on notice.

Given the dominance and versatility displayed by Wembanayama, Silver didn't want teams tanking for a better lottery pick. He spoke in October about how the league wants to curb tanking and what can be done to ensure teams are competing throughout the entire season.

"It's something we have to watch for," Silver said, via ESPN. "A draft is, in principle, a good system. But I get it, especially when there is a sense that a once-in-a-generation player is coming along, like we have this year.
"Teams are smarter, they are creative, and they respond – we move, they move – so we're always looking to see whether there's yet a better system,"

Now, with the upcoming offseason rapidly approaching, let's take a look at the teams most likely to secure the number one pick in the upcoming draft.

2023 NBA draft lottery odds, looking at the top three teams to land Victor Wembanayama

The NBA draft lottery makes it so that the three teams with the worst record all have a 14.0% chance of securing the No. 1 pick.

The Detroit Pistons (16-59), Houston Rockets (19-56) and San Antonio Spurs (18-58) will finish with the NBA's three worst records. All have the best odds and equal odds of landing the top pick.

The Charlotte Hornets (26-51) will finish with the fourth-worst record and have a 12.5% chance.

The team with the fifth-worst record will have a 10.5% chance, and the team with the sixth-worst record will have a 9.0% chance. All 14 teams that miss the playoffs will be in the lottery, although the team with the 14th-worst record will have just a 0.5% chance.

With Detroit, San Antonio and Houston having the most balls in the May 16 draft lottery, the odds are that Victor Wembanyama lands with one.

With Victor Wembanayama already leaving NBA stars in awe with his dominant performances, as long as he remains healthy, he'll go first on June 22. As Giannis Antetokounmpo told Serge Ibaka heading into this season, the 7-foot-4 French star is unlike anything we've ever seen before.

"This kid is going to be a problem," Antetokounmpo said. "A big problem. I've never seen this before in my life. I saw him up close. He was on the same team as my brother Kostas. He's taller than Rudy Gobert. He can block shots like Rudy but shoot like KD (Kevin Durant). Bro, bro. Crazy, crazy.

"He has a good attitude. If he stays healthy, he's going to be really good."
