Golden State Warriors Rumors: Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were frustrated with team before trade deadline
The Golden State Warriors made one move at the trade deadline, acquiring Gary Payton II in a four-team deal. But before the trade, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were reportedly frustrated with the Warriors and the direction the team was heading in.
According to an anonymous Western Conference executive, Curry and Thompson were unhappy with how the season was going. The Warriors front office had no choice but to trade James Wiseman and get Payton back for another playoff run.
"Getting Payton back was a good move," the executive Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports. "The players really liked Gary Payton. The coaches really liked him. No one wanted to see them lose him to Portland and not really even be in the mix on re-signing him. The injury thing really screwed them."
He added:
"But guys like Steph and Klay , that was a good signal that they're trying to win now. That they don't want to give away this season to develop young guys, that's important. There's no question those guys were frustrated with the team and the way they were approaching everything."
The Golden State Warriors acquired Gary Payton II from the Portland Trail Blazers in a four-team trade. The Warriors traded James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons, while Saddiq Bey went to the Atlanta Hawks. Kevin Knox II was sent to Portland along with five second-round picks.
One reported source of frustration for Steph Curry and Klay Thompson was the Warriors' insistence on holding on to Wiseman and waiting for his development. The championship window for both the Splash Brothers is closing due to Curry's age and Thompson's injury history.
"Everybody liked James Wiseman, there was nothing against the guy, and he might have a bright future," the anonymous executive told Sean Deveney. "But there is no doubt that the coaches and players could see the writing on the wall. This guy is not going to help us this year, and he might not help us the year after."

The Golden State Warriors are currently fifth in the Western Conference standings with a record of 36-33. They are one of the best teams at home this season at 29-7, which means they are equally terrible on the road. The defending champs are abysmal away from Chase Center with a record of 7-26.
Steph Curry and the company will enter a very important stretch of the season starting on Wednesday against the LA Clippers. The game kicks off a five-game road trip, with the Warriors also visiting the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks.
