3 young West Indies players who can become T20 superstars

The West Indies have always been passionate about cricket and have produced some of the world's greatest cricketers. They won the first 2 ODI World Cups and continue to impress in the shorter formats of the game.

Players like Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell are household names when it comes to the IPL and other T20 leagues.

After winning the T20 World Cup in 2016, they haven't had much reason to celebrate. Their young side has few match winners who are yet to unleash themselves. Their inexperience was the reason for the West Indies losing games both at home and abroad.

The ODI series in India wasn't a total failure for the Windies as they managed to tie 1 game and level the series in the third game after brilliant batting performances in the first 2 games. The last 2 games were, however, one-sided as the West Indies lost by a huge margin of 224 runs and were bundled out for 104 in the last ODI.

West Indies lost the first T20I by 5 wickets. They gave a poor batting performance but their bowlers bowled pretty well but their score of 109 was too less to defend. They will take confidence from their bowling performance and perform well in the second T20I which will take place on 6th November in Lucknow.

Here are 3 players who have the potential to become future superstars.

#3- Oshane Thomas ( Fast Bowler)

Oshane Thomas is a young fast bowler who made his debut in the recent ODI series against India. He's 21 years old and came into the limelight after playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. Oshane is a right arm pacer and is nippy, quick and hits the deck hard. He bowls at an average speed 145 km/hr and manages to generate pace and bounce even on dry pitches.

He has taken 19 wickets from T20s at an average of 17.66 which is phenomenal for a fast bowler and has an economy rate of 8.34 which is also good considering he normally bowls in the power play. He is a bit inconsistent with his line and should play first-class cricket and gain experience to season his bowling.

He was exceptional in the first T20I vs India and rattled the Indian batting lineup by getting the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan and finished off with figures of 2 for 21 in 4 overs.

With the possibility of playing in other T20 leagues, this youngster can gain experience and become a seasoned fast bowler for the Windies. He will look to continue with his brilliant performance in the second T20I in Lucknow on 6th November.

#2- Rovman Powell( Batsman)

If we are selecting players based on their recent form, Rovman Powell will probably not feature on our list. He has had a bad series so far in India and has scored only 61 runs from 5 matches. He had a bad outing when the West Indies took on India in the first T20 on Sunday. He was able to manage only 4 runs after the Windies top order collapsed. He will look to give a better performance in the 2nd T20I on 6th November.

Rovman is a T20 specialist batsman and can hit the ball a long way. He has had a tremendous year in T20 matches scoring 436 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 149.80 and an average of 38.23 and was exceptional while playing for the Jamaica Tallawahas in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League. He prefers batting at number 4 and has even better stats in that position. He has scored 335 runs in 8 matches at number 4 with an average of 67 and a strike rate of 170. Rovman can also be a bowling option and has taken 6 wickets this year at an average of 24 but is expensive as well with an economy of 10.56.

Rovman is very strong in the mid wicket to long on the region and also plays big shots over long off. With the typical strong arms and bludgeoning bat of the West Indies, Rovman could be the solution for the struggling Windies middle order in both ODIs and T20Is while he can open the batting as well.

If he performs well in the remaining matches versus India, he could become a Windies regular.

# 1- Shimron Hetmyer ( Batsman)

Shimron Hetmyer is one among many players who burst into the limelight after playing in the Caribbean Premier League. He played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors and had a tremendous season scoring 440 runs in 12 innings at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 150. He prefers batting at number three but can also bat at number 4 and 5. He won 3 Man Of the Match awards scoring one 100 and 3 50s.

That wasn't all for Hetmyer as he scored a century in the first ODI against India off just 75 balls and tormented the Indian bowling lineup. He followed it up with 95 in the second game where Shai Hope scored a century to tie the game. Shimron recently said that his dream was to play in the IPL and his dream could be fulfilled as his achievements have forced the cricketing world to turn their attention towards him.

He favors the midwicket region while he can play big shots over both long on and long off. He prefers staying in the crease than charging down the track and plays both pacers and spinners alike. Just 21 years of age, he is already a key part of this Windies side and can solve many middle order problems which have plagued the Windies and fits into both the T20 and the ODI side.

Although he was dismissed for 10 in the first T20I, Hetmyer can certainly pose a problem for India when they take on the Windies on 6th November and will look to justify his reputation as a big hitter and hit the Indian bowlers out of the park.
