Normally the higher-ranked teams and the superstar players are expected to make these records and sometimes break them too with their magnificent performances. But there have been instances when a relatively unknown team or an unknown cricketer created those records which are yet to be broken.

Well, one may doubt the significance of some of these records as they took place in matches which featured the lower-ranked sides. However, one cannot deny the fact that any record in any match takes a lot of effort and one should credit the person or the team for achieving that.

This Nepal cricketer made an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records when he became the first cricketer to take all 10 wickets in an ICC international cricket match on 25th May 2008.

He achieved this unique feat against Mozambique in Jersey, UK at the 2008 ICC World Cricket League Division V competition.

Nepal batting first put 238 on the board and while chasing, the hapless Mozambique side had to face the ‘wrath’ of the left-arm medium pacer who ran through their batting line-up.

Mozambique lost their last four wickets without adding anything to the score and eventually they were bowled out for only 19. Mahaboob’s final figures read 7.5-1-12-10.

It was the first time such a thing happened in any ICC-recognized match and surely deserves a mention in this list.

4. RJ Trott-Bermuda

On 5th August 2008, Rodney Trott from Bermuda became the youngest captain to lead his side in a T20I and that record still stands.

At the age of 20 years and 332 days, the right-arm offbreak bowler led his side against Canada in the 5th place play-off in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier.

Ironically, it was also Trott’s last T20I match as after that he hasn’t played any T20Is till date for his national side.

Canada won that match comfortably by 8 wickets and with 57 balls to spare. Trott only bowled 2.3 overs in the match and conceded 18 runs.

On 30th November 2014, Khurram Khan of United Arab Emirates became the oldest player to score a hundred in an ODI. At the age of 43 years and 162 days, Khurram scored an unbeaten 132 against Afghanistan at Dubai.

He broke the record of Sanath Jayasuriya to become the oldest player to score a ton. It was also the veteran southpaw’s maiden ton in ODIs.

Chasing 280, Khurram exhibited his wide range of strokes to torment the Afghan bowlers and helped his side chase the target with consummate ease.

Showing a calm head, he hit 17 fours and a six and stitched an important partnership with Mohammad Shahzad to lead his side to the total.

2. The Netherlands Cricket Team

The Netherlands cricket team did the unthinkable in the 12th match of the World T20 in 2014 when they chased the target of 189 in just 13.5 overs against Ireland.

The Dutch brigade needed a spark to stay afloat in the tournament and they did just that as they shattered the record books to hit the most sixes(19) in any T20I innings.

The opening batsman Stephan Myburgh’s blitzkrieg and the crucial contributions of others made this possible as the orange army stormed their way to the daunting total.

Hitting sixes at will, the Netherlands batsmen struck 19 sixes to create the record which still stands.

1. Ryan Ten Doeschate

This talented Dutch cricketer has a record which might just surprise you. We all know, Sir Donald Bradman has the highest average in the longest format of the game- 99.94.

But who holds the record in ODIS(players who have played at least 30 ODIS and scored 1000 runs)? The answer is Ryan Ten Doeschate whose average of 67 in 33 ODIs keeps him way above the others.

AB de Villiers, Michael Bevan, Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli are the others in the top 5 and Ryan’s achievement surely deserves the plaudits.

The stylish right-hander scored 1541 runs in his ODI career with 5 centuries and 9 fifties and he is undoubtedly one of the best cricketers Netherlands have ever produced.
