Sachin Tendulkar records: The only Asian batsman to achieve this unique feat
Sachin Tendulkar is considered the greatest batsman of all time. He epitomized the art of batting and conquered possibly every batting record that came his way. If you're in the middle of a quiz and being asked a question related to batting, there is a great possibility 'Sachin' could be its answer.
Tendulkar was a prolific run scorer and has scored over 34000 international runs. He represented India over 24 years in 200 Tests, 463 ODIs, and 1 T20I. He is currently the leading run-getter in Tests and ODIs and has 100 centuries to his name. However, his records and statistics swell when you rope in his runs from other List A, first-class games, and T20s.
He holds a unique record for scoring 50,000 runs across all the recognized formats of cricket. He is the first and the only Asian to do so. He is the 16th player to achieve this feat.
Tendulkar, who retired from the international cricket in 2013, had achieved this feat in the semi-final of the Champions League T20 in that same year. He had reached this milestone by nudging Yannick Ottley, the left-arm spinner from Trinidad and Tobago, towards mid-wicket for a single.
However, Tendulkar's contribution in that edition of CLT20 was not very significant but Mumbai Indians were able to lift the trophy. After playing a couple of first-class games before playing his final two Test matches in the following month, he brought the curtains down over his illustrious career.
Tendulkar was able to amass staggering numbers in his career spanning over 24 years. He finished his career with 50,192 runs in 957 competitive games. In 551 List A games, he has 21,999 runs to his name, with the highest score of 200*.
Since his debut against Gujarat in 1988, Tendulkar made 25396 runs in 310 first class games at a hefty average of 57.9. In 96 T20 matches that he played, he managed to score 2797 runs with the highest of 100*.
