Both the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim do not support 4K HDR resolution for their respective games. They do, however, offer 4K HDR support for their video players. So if you're watching a movie or a 4K YouTube video, you will be able to render them.

4K Support was added to the later models Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. This should not matter to you if you do not own a 4K capable TV.

There are also differences with regards to the performance of each consoles GPUs, CPUs and RAM. Here are the specs of both the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim.

If you are not technically savvy, what this basically means is that the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim have about the same processing power and can render about the same resolutions. The Xbox One S is just slightly more powerful, but not by much.
