Barcelona have won eight league titles in the past 11 years. They finished runners-up only to Jose Mourinho's Madrid, Diego Simeone's Atlético and Zinedine Zidane's Madrid. While Zidane has won the league title as manager, he had Ronaldo in lethal form with Morata and James Rodriguez to call off the bench as they chipped in with vital goals. This time around, the squad depth does not compare in terms of the sheer quality of the 2016-17 squad.

Barça have a core which is so used to winning league titles as they perform consistently and relentlessly, week in week out. While this success hasn't translated to the lottery of the Champions League, there are no questions over which club has been better over a 38-game league season in the past decade.

The players know it and the opposition know it as well. Madrid have new signings who are performing well under the Frenchman, but as the pressure reaches fever pitch, it helps to be used to dealing with a title race.
