EPL 2016-17 : Liverpool's Danny Ings out for the rest of the season with yet another knee injury

Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow as Danny Ings is set to be out for the remainder of the season with yet another knee injury. In yet another devastating injury for the young Englishman, Ings is said to be distraught over his latest knee problem which he suffered during his appearance against Spurs in the EFL Cup. Ings is set to be out for a period of around seven months which will see him miss out on his second successive campaign under Jurgen Klopp.

The former Burnley man suffered an ACL injury in Jurgen Klopp's first training session when the German was unveiled in October last year but was praised by everyone at Melwood with his positive attitude. Klopp too was full of praises for Ings last season as he made a surprise return to the squad last season when he started Liverpool's final league game against West Brom. Since joining from Burnley last summer, Ings has made just five starts for the Reds and has three goals to his name.

Ings played just 22 minutes against Spurs but looked jaded in the stoppage time as he felt a jolt in his right knee. He signaled to his bench right away but nothing serious was expected by the medical staff. Since the game against Spurs, Liverpool performed many tests on the former Burnley star and it was discovered that Ings had suffered cartilage damage that will only be rectified with surgery.

This injury can be said as being similar to the one suffered by Arsenal's Danny Welbeck as the Gunners forward is yet to recover from the injury. Just like Welbeck, Ings is said to be assessed by London specialist Andy Williams who performed the surgery on Welbeck last year. Ings was a transfer target for many clubs in the summer as the likes of Sunderland, Stoke and Leicester had enquired about the 24-year-old.

Jurgen Klopp has been an admirer of Ings since long as he had said about the Englishman, "He is a wonderful boy. It's not the easiest thing when a player works really hard and then he is not involved, so, of course, you want to give the player something back for the unrest. It is not always possible but as soon as it is possible, I will pay back."

Ings was given an extended run for Liverpool U23 where he scored for fun before coming into the reckoning last week. This injury might be demoralizing for the 24-year-old who holds the record of being the most expensive English 'Bosman' signing of all time.
