Former Southampton and Celtic manager Gordon Strachan believes that Jose Mourinho has a specific idea about the players he wants to sign. Manchester United couldn’t sign the players that the Portuguese wanted in the summer.

As a result, it is being touted that the January window shall be used as a means to get the players that the Portuguese seeks. According to Strachan, the former Real Madrid manager would like to have players with “strength, height and power.”

“I think they do have a clear idea,” he said. “Strength, height, power, in terms of players they want to sign.

“Strength, height power, that's what they got in Pogba, Lukaku, Matic, the centre-halves.”

He then added that the reason United sign such players is that they want to brute-force their way towards the title. However, he also admitted that it hasn’t worked for the Red Devils.

“I think they have a strategy that they want to power their way through.

“But what the other two teams did [Liverpool and Man City], or three with [Mauricio] Pochettino, is get in players who can play with energy.

“They went with that but they are now being found out.”

Meanwhile, Chris Smalling has signed a new deal with the Old Trafford outfit that will keep him at the club until 2022. The defender was happy with it and revealed that it is an “honour” to play for the Theatre of Dreams.

Smalling said: “This is my ninth season with the club and I am delighted to be continuing my progression with this team.

“It is a real honour to play for Manchester United and we are all now concentrating on the busy schedule of games throughout the festive period.”

Despite the fact that the Red Devils couldn’t sign the manager’s targets in the summer, Mourinho isn’t sure if the club will sanction the deals of new players in January.

The former Real Madrid manager stated that while he wants to add new players to his team, he doesn’t know whether it is actually possible. He then added that he is only focusing on the next match against Liverpool and that the happenings of the winter window depend on the board.

"I don't know if we are going to have new players, I would like to, but I don't know if it is possible or not," the former Inter Milan boss was quoted as saying.

"It depends on the club. Honestly, I'm focused on my job of playing Liverpool and next week playing Cardiff, and I'm more focused on that."

Chelsea and Arsenal are doing well in the Premier League as the London outfits are separated by only three points in the league. The Gunners might be pushing hard for a top-four finish but they realise they will be needing reinforcements.

As a result, it is being reported by Tutto Mercato Web, via Read Arsenal, that the Gunners have made a bid for Roma superstar Cengiz Under. The report adds that Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to strengthen the attack and thinks that Under is the player he needs.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s pursuit of Christian Pulisic might have something in it after all. According to reports, the Blues want to sign in January itself. It is expected that Hudson-Odoi will consider moving out of the Stamford should they sign the American.

It is thought that Pulisic wants to leave the Ruhr outfit after being overshadowed by Jadon Sancho.

Isco has faced the wrath of the fans

The Reds are marching up and up while the Toffees are desperately trying to catch up but have failed in their attempts. However, Everton are going to continue strengthening their team – at least that is what the papers are on about.

According to Daily Mail, West Ham starlet Reece Oxford is a target for the Goodison Park outfit. The youngster hasn’t been able to get on the good books of Manuel Pellegrini and it is likely that he would push for a move.

Meanwhile, Don Balon state that Isco is tired of his situation at the Bernabeu and wants to leave. He hasn’t played as much as he would have liked under Santiago Solari and now, the report claims that his agent has already spoken to Jose Mourinho about a potential move.

However, the Portuguese has informed that United will have to make sales before they can sign Isco.

"I never had a bad relationship with him.”
