Fortnite boss Tim Sweeney explains if the Battle Royale mode will ever end

Fortnite Battle Royale is still very popular. Despite being in its sixth year, Epic Games' title still has millions of active players on a daily basis. Despite this, many think that the game will shut down soon, but that is not the case. Tim Sweeney and Sax Persson, the CEO and the Vice President of Epic Games, respectively, recently had an interview with SypherPK, a popular streamer, and talked about a potential shutdown.

Epic recently released Creative 2.0, allowing players to create their own massive-scale maps. Due to this, many started worrying about the future of the Battle Royale mode. After all, this is the most popular offering in the title.

However, the developers have no plans on shutting the mode down anytime soon. Ali-A, one of the most popular content creators, recently spoke to Tim Sweeney and Sax Persson and asked about a potential shutdown of the Battle Royale mode.

The question can be seen at the 3:04 mark in the video above.

Here's what Persson said to Ali-A:

"If you'd asked that question of the Battle Royale team, I think it would just laugh, like, 'What? Why would there be an end to this?' It's like saying when is Disneyland shutting down."

Tim Sweeney, the company's founder and CEO, also shared his thoughts regarding a potential shutdown. He pointed out how video games have constantly changed throughout history and that even Epic Games added some things to Fortnite that were not battle royale-ish.

Sweeney implied that the video game will keep changing, which comes as no surprise considering that it looks nothing like its initial version from September 2017. Due to this, we can expect the developers to keep releasing new seasons and chapters.

Fortnite has more than 500 million players in total and more than 70 million active users on a monthly basis. The Battle Royale mode accounts for approximately 60% of the total playtime, which is why shutting it down makes no sense for Epic Games.

The developers have released numerous big updates for Fortnite Battle Royale in the past, making the video game very popular. It appears that this strategy will be used for many years to come.
