Citi Open 2023

The Citi Open or the Washington Open is a tennis tournament that is part of the ATP 500 and WTA 250 series. The hardcourt event is played every year.

The Washington Open has been a part of the ATP calendar since 1969, while the women's event was introduced in 2011. The 2022 Citi Open is the 53rd edition of the tournament on the men’s side, while it’s the 10th edition for the women.

In 2022, the tournament will be held from August 1-7 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C., United States. The tournament features 64 singles players and 16 doubles teams on the men’s tour, while 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams will participate on the women’s side. The total prize money is $1,953,285 and $251,750 for the men and women respectively. 

Defending champions

At the previous edition (2021), Jannik Sinner beat Mackenzie McDonald 7–5, 4–6, 7–5 to emerge victorious in the men's singles final. In men's doubles, Raven Klaasen and Ben McLachlan overcame the pair of Neal Skupski and Micheal Venus 7–6(7–4), 6–4 to lift the trophy. 

The women’s edition didn’t take place in 2021. 2019 was the last edition on the WTA tour, with Jessica Pegula emerging as the women's singles champion, convincingly beating Italy's Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-2 in the final. The women's doubles final, on the other hand, saw the teenage pair of Coco Gauff and Caty McNally beat Maria Sanchez and Fanny Stollar 6-2, 6-2 for the title.
