Tammy Slaton weight loss surgery: Does she qualify for Bariatric surgery?

Tammy Slaton of 1000-Lb. Sisters fame has made quite the strides in her weight loss journey.

Last Tuesday, she was joined by her sisters Amanda and Mindy for an episode of her show, where she learned that she had lost 180 lbs. She recalled first stepping into the weight loss rehab center in Ohio, weighing around 717 lbs, as she burst into tears at her lowest point. It was the most she had ever weighed.

But how has she pulled herself out of such a seemingly deep pit? We'll take a look at her journey in this piece.

In the PEOPLE's exclusive clip, here's what Tammy Slaton said:

"I need to get to 550 lbs. for me to be approved for surgery. Until then, I hate getting on a scale. My worst fear is gaining weight. I don't want to disappoint my family or myself."

When the moment of truth finally did arrive, it was all worth it. She had reached 534 lbs. Amanda said:

"Are you serious? For real? Tammy, you see that!"

As per Dr. Eric Smith, Slaton had to slim down to a target weight of 550 lbs to be eligible for weight loss surgery. No wonder her sisters were so stoked for her. Here's what Tammy Slaton had to say when she crushed her target weight:

"When I got on the scale and I saw the scale was at 534.7, I kinda stopped breathing for a second. I'm like 14 lbs. under my goal weight. From over 700, that's a huge drop."

She continued:

"I did that! I'm feeling thrilled, proud, excited — just all the emotions. I proved everybody wrong. Everybody that doubted me, I finally got mine! My told-you-so moment!"

Emotions were running at an all-time high when the news broke. While everyone was obviously jubilant, Tammy Slaton was more relieved than anything. She wanted to get it done with.

Amanda then told her that she'd hopefully be undergoing surgery the next time they met. In a confessional, here's what Amanda had to say:

"This is what we've been waiting for. This is what we've been working for. Tammy's made the goal weight, it might mean she's finally gonna have surgery. She's finally gonna get this and the future looks good."

She continued:

"I know there's several other doctors that she has to get approved from but the way I look at it is, before we can ever go see those people she had to reach that weight loss goal that Dr. Smith had given her and Tammy's done that. She's gonna do the damn thing."

We're all excited and proud of Tammy Slaton for not just achieving, but demolishing her target weight. While the next step isn't in her hands, she's done everything in her power to drop almost 200 pounds and qualify for surgery.

Losing that much weight isn't easy, and takes a lot of dedication. As such, it's a commendable feat that deserves to be celebrated.
