Asian Games 2023 Highlights September 28: India finish Day 5 with three medals, including another Gold in shooting

A gold medal in Shooting (India's 10m Air Pistol team) in addition to a silver (Roshibina Devi Naorem in Wushu) and a bronze medal (Anush Agarwalla in Equestrian). Plenty of positive results going in India's favour apart from that too. Aditi Ashok ended the day tied for second place in Women's Individual Golf, Saketh Myneni and Ramakumar Ramanathan have ensure themselves at least a Silver medal in men's doubles Tennis, amongst other results. So, plenty to look forward to for tomorrow.

Well, that's that for the Indian football teams at the Asian Games. Anti-climactic end but a 2-0 against a team like Saudi Arabia may not be the worst result. Head Coach Igor Stimac set up his players to be compact in defence, and compact they were. Until they weren't. A couple of avoidable goals, in the end, see India crash out of the Asian Games at the Round of 16.

Nishant Dev vs Bui Phuoc Tung: Round 1

A powerful right by Nishant! And it's a knockout! the World Championships Bronze Medallist doesn't waste any time as he wins by knockout in the first round itself. Absolutely no chance for the Vietnam boxer who is grounded by a strong right hook and the referee had to stop the fight. With this win, Nishant wins his second bout in the Asian Games and advances to the quarterfinals.

SWIMMING - Women's 4x200m Freestyle Relay Final

Massive loss for India in the Women's 4x200m Freestyle Relay! The Koreans are in tears, not believing that they have finished third. China, Japan and Republic of Korea taking first three spots. China's winning time was 7:49.34 while India's was 8:37.58 - a massive 48.24 seconds behind.

At the end of 350m, it is China, Korea and Japan who are in the top three. India are already around 50m behind the top three! No surprises there as India continue to be placed last.

Well, it would be fair to say that the results from this match are not surprising. Aryan Nehra finishing seventh and Kushagra Rawat comes around nearly 30 seconds after the first-placed Korean. Both Indians had the slowest reaction times as well to the whistle.

A massive, massive gap between the first positioned Korean swimmer and the Indian ones, almost a 50m gap between the two. Aryan and Kushagra will finish in the last two.

At the end of 300m, there isn't any improvement in the position of the Indians as they continue to be placed seventh and eighth. Not the best of starts here and chances at a medal might be fading away.

Deepak Bhoria vs Tsuboi Tomoya: Round 3

Deepak is out of the competition!! He loses the bout 4:1 on the judges scorecard. He managed to be the dominant boxer in Round 3 with four judges favoring him in the round but in the end, it was simply not enough.

SWIMMING

It is time for the Men's 800m Freestyle Fast Heat Final! India's Aryan Nehra and Kushagra Rawat will be in action as they compete against two Chinese, two Japanese, one Korean and one Vietnamese swimmer. Can India get its first medal in swimming at Asian Games 2023? Stay tuned to find out! The Indians will be competing in the first and eighth lane respectively.

Deepak will require a dominant Round 3 to win this bout. As of the end of Round 2, Tomoya leads the scoring 20-18 in two judge's cards while it's even 19 -19 for the other three judges.

A little more aggression by Deepak but the bout is still being controlled by the Japanese boxer. Deepak improves in the round as three judges scores favor him in Round 2. Another round where both fighters got to show off their incredible footwork as well.

India win and progress to the semifinals! A speedy serve by Bopanna is met by a labouring stretch from Kulambayeva. The ball lobs up to Rutuja at the net, who calmly deposits it beyond the reach of the Kazakhs. Bopanna and Rutuja hug each other and proceed to applaud the crowd. Bopanna pumps his first in the air in delight. A wonderful day of tennis success for India as both teams playing have progressed forward.
