Chatri Sityodtong impressed by Jarred Brooks’ performance against Joshua Pacio

ONE CEO and founder Chatri Sityodtong was impressed with Jarred Brooks’ all-encompassing performance against Joshua Pacio in the main event at ONE 164.

In prior interviews, Jarred Brooks said his training camp put an emphasis on his boxing and footwork in preparation for Pacio. The training was evident at ONE 164 when the famed Team Lakay striker had trouble finding his shots against the American wrestler.

Chatri Sityodtong noticed the improvement and didn’t hesitate to say so at the ONE 164 post-fight press conference:

“Man, Jarred is good. I did not think Jarred was going to win on the feet. If you had asked me before the fight, I would say Jarred has to take him down and ground-and-pound him and eventually TKO him or win by decision on those takedowns.”

Despite being a well-contested fight, Brooks truly held his own in the striking department.

The Michigan native had only two successful takedowns in the championship rounds, but couldn’t find the submission. To Pacio’s credit, he stuffed the majority of the level changes early in the fight to great effect, which may have forced Brooks to adjust his game plan.

As Chatri mentioned, the old Brooks would’ve wrestled until finding the finish. Instead, he picked Pacio apart with his boxing and punching power for the majority of the fight.

After delivering such an imposing performance, Jarred Brooks was crowned the new ONE strawweight world champion via unanimous decision.

Jarred Brooks respectfully calls out Demetrious Johsnon in the circle at ONE 164

Jarred Brooks is feeling on top of the world after capturing strawweight gold last Saturday. It seems like his goals are being checked off his list one fight at a time.

In the build-up to his world title matchup with Joshua Pacio, the American wrestler spoke about his future plans after claiming the belt. One of the names that popped out was ‘Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson.

Prior to ONE 164, Brooks discussed moving up to flyweight to fight ‘Mighty Mouse’ for his belt. The idea of having two world-class American champions and wrestlers fight for the belt would absolutely attract US audiences even more.

Inside the circle, 'The Monkey God' revisited his desire to fight his MMA idol with the following words:

“I mean, I would love to fight Demetrious Johnson, that’s like, a dream come true for me. Demetrious, I have the utmost respect for you, you’re the best ever. I would love to share the circle with you, lose or win.”
