Nate Landwehr vs. Austin Lingo: What did 'Lights Out' have to say following his submission loss?

The featherweight bout between Nate Landwehr and Austin Lingo transpired at the UFC San Antonio event at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, USA, on March 25, 2023. The matchup featured both fighters engaging in a tactical first round, with the action escalating in the next round.

Lingo appeared to be getting the better of the striking exchanges in round one. The MMA stalwart from Texas effectively utilized his boxing to tag his foe, whilst displaying good defensive striking as well. That said, Tennessee's Landwehr kept the pressure on and landed a few decent strikes of his own in the first round.

Following that, the second round saw Landwehr turn up the intensity and start outworking Lingo on the feet. The end came in round two after Landwehr seemingly stunned 'Lights Out' with a hard punch that knocked his mouthpiece out.

Before Lingo could properly react to the punch and his mouthpiece falling out, Landwehr swiftly took his back and locked in a rear-naked choke to secure the tap.

Austin Lingo subsequently took to his official Twitter account to address his submission defeat against Nate Landwehr at UFC San Antonio. Suggesting that he'll be back stronger than ever, 'Lights Out' expressed his gratitude towards everyone who supported him. Lingo tweeted:

Austin Lingo discussed realization of elite UFC competition before fighting Nate Landwehr

Prior to his fight against Nate Landwehr, Austin Lingo notably shed light upon how he realized that the level of competition in the UFC is much higher than that in other MMA organizations. Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA's Andrew Whitelaw, 'Lights Out' harked back to his unanimous decision win over Luis Saldana in August 2021.

Austin Lingo indicated that his clash against Luis Saldana showed him how elite the level of competition in the UFC truly is. On that note, 'Lights Out' insinuated that he's been preparing for that level and believes he's surely capable of competing against others in the UFC. Lingo stated:

"[Luis] Saldana showed me that with the tricks and all that spinning elbows and yeah, he definitely showed me a lot of that. And I was like, 'Man this a new level.' So, I've been prepping for this next fight like crazy and I know the level I gotta be at. So, I'm definitely there though."
