UFC president Dana White reacts to Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk being delayed - "Welcome to boxing, boys!"

UFC president Dana White recently offered his take on the undisputed heavyweight championship fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk not being agreed yet.

At the post-fight press conference following UFC 286 in London, White was asked about his thoughts on the highly anticipated Fury vs. Usyk fight not being confirmed as yet. The UFC frontman mocked the problems faced by modern pro boxing and its inability to make the biggest fights:

“It’s scheduled though right? Is it? No? Welcome to boxing, boys! I mean, Is it shocking ? Yes. Is it shocking? No. That is boxing, it’s just how that sport always seems to play out. The big fights [in boxing] that should happen, never happen and when they do it’s always late and yeah. That’s the stuff that used to drive me crazy as a fan and it’s literally part of how I designed this company [UFC] to not be. You know, we try to make the big fights when it’s time to make the big fights."

Boxing fans have been quite vocal about the fact that the biggest fights in the sport do not get made when they’re supposed to, or sometimes not at all. The example of Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao is often referenced, where it is believed that the two fighters were well past their prime at 38 and 36 by the time they fought one another.

In contrast, the biggest fights often come together in the UFC.

Oleksandr Usyk’s team hire British advisors to process demands from Tyson Fury’s camp

Alex Krassyuk, head of K2 promotions and promoter for Oleksandr Usyk, expressed his frustration with the fight not being signed yet and additional demands coming from Tyson Fury’s side to sign the agreement for the undisputed clash.

He told Steve Kim:

"They act like it’s just a regular Fury fight in the UK, and everything has to be by Fury’s rules. We’re going to wait [and not issue a deadline] because right now we’re in the process of hiring British counsel because they are going by the British rules. We are the outsider, but we can’t just play by everything they throw to us. Enough is enough… If this fight is going to happen, only April 29th. Or it’s just going to be cancelled, and we’ll go with the mandatory."

Krassyuk insists that the fight against Tyson Fury will either take place on April 29th or Oleksandr Usyk will fight WBA mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois next. Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled for April 29th but has not been officially signed or announced as of this writing.
