Former NFL QB claims Aaron Rodgers' Jets move has a crucial Brett Favre link

Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre were inseparable topics of discussion from 2005 until about 2010. 13 years later, seemingly half of the conversations in the NFL zeitgeist are about No. 12 and his former mentor.

With the Packers quarterback gearing up to follow in his mentor's footsteps, many are wondering if he will be able to replicate or improve upon what his predecessor accomplished.

Speaking on Get Up, NFL analyst Robert Griffin III speculated that the quarterback's sole motivation for going to New York is to prove himself to be better than Favre.

Will No. 12 earn more wins than No. 4 did in his first year with the New York Jets?

"With [Aaron Rodgers] coming to New York, new teammates, new city. It'll be the same offense. But for Aaron Rodgers, he's got nothing to lose. I believe he's just trying to one up Brett Favre. That's all he's trying to do. Their stories are so linked and him coming to New York, being able to do what Brett Favre couldn't do [is his goal]."

Aaron Rodgers prepares to match bar set by Brett Favre

Los Angeles Rams v Green Bay Packers

Favre arrived in New York with the Jets in 2008, at age 39. He started at 8-3, as strong as any quarterback could realistically hope. However, he finished at 9-7 and his overall production on the season was a shell of his former powers. In 2008, he threw for 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

While the bar is high for Rodgers through 11 games, the difficulty of the endeavor eases after that. If the quarterback can stay above a 1:1 touchdown-interception ratio and stay more than one game above .500, he will have outperformed his mentor. Of course, Favre did finish his final season with the Packers in a stronger way than Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers loves to prove doubters wrong. Packers gave him all the ammo he needs. He’s coming for blood this year

In 2007, Favre threw for 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions and went 13-3. In comparison, Rodgers threw for 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and went 8-9. Some could argue that in comparison, Rodgers is already 0-1 in how he is ending things with the team. Will he be able to make things 1-1 in 2023?
