“I would be in favor” – Giants owner John Mara confirms interest in Odell Beckham Jr. reunion

The Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes are heating up, and the New York Giants appear as a potential landing spot.

Several teams that include the New England Patriots, the Dallas Cowboys (prior to the Brandin Cooks trade), the Baltimore Ravens, and the Kansas City Chiefs have all reportedly expressed interest in the receiver.

But what about a nostalgic return to the Giants? Well, it may be on the cards if what owner John Mara said about the situation is true. Per Rob Maaddi, Mara would be in favor of a reunion with Odell.

Mara said:

“We certainly haven’t closed that door. … I would be in favor of that.”

It appears that there is room for Beckham Jr. to return to the franchise that drafted him. Whether or not it will be viable financially and exactly what the star receiver wants in terms of salary is unknown, but there appears to at least be interest from the Giants.

After a bounce-back year of sorts for the Giants under Brian Daboll that saw New York win a playoff against the Minnesota Vikings, adding the receiver back into the room would add serious star power.

Would acquiring Odell Beckham Jr. work for the Giants?

On paper, at least yes, it could work. With Daniel Jones improving out of sight last season and now with the addition of star tight end Darren Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders, the Giants have some power on offense.

Add in newly acquired Parris Campbell from the Indianapolis Colts to compliment what is already there and now the Giants have firepower. However, if Odell Beckham Jr. is added, the firepower goes up another level and gives Jones a bonafide number one receiver.

With the NFC East now becoming rather strong, the Giants are going to need all the weapons they can get their hands on. Does that include Beckham Jr.? Giants fans would like to think so.

There is still a long way to go, but it does feel like Odell Beckham Jr. to New York is gathering steam. Now that Mara has stated as such, the likelihood of him returning is looking good.
