Patrick Mahomes injury update: Status of Chiefs QB's high ankle sprain after win vs. Bengals

Patrick Mahomes has put the Kansas City Chiefs within arm's reach of winning another Super Bowl. Despite not being fully healthy, the quarterback rallied his team past the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.

Mahomes was dealing with a high ankle sprain heading into the clash. He suffered the injury during Kansas City's Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 27-year-old practiced with the team late last week. But there were still doubts about his status for Sunday's game. Nonetheless, Mahomes decided to fight through the injury and led his team to victory in the AFC Championship.

Since their win against the Bengals, there have been no updates on the status of Mahomes' ankle injury. The five-time Pro Bowler is listed as active on the team's roster and is expected to participate in training sessions throughout the week.

Patrick Mahomes' availability was a huge boost for the Chiefs on Sunday. They now have a two-week break before facing the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

This should give Mahomes ample time to rest his ankle and fully recover for the big game. The quarterback will be eager to add another Super Bowl ring to his growing trophy cabinet.
