NFL Rumors: Raiders take major decision on #7 overall pick after Jalen Carter consideration

The Las Vegas Raiders are officially out on taking Georgia Bulldogs star defensive lineman Jalen Carter with the seventh overall pick.

Carter was touted as a top draft pick just a few months ago (for some, a potential first overall pick). However, after his alleged involvement in a car crash that killed a teammate, teams have him sliding way down the draft board.

Now, the Raiders have reportedly ruled out taking the defensive star with the seventh pick.

In a piece for The Athletic, Vic Tafur claimed, after getting information through a source, that the Raiders are not interested in getting Carter with their first pick:

"The Raiders will do their homework on Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, as one of the top two or three players in the draft will almost assuredly slide after he pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges of racing and reckless driving," Tafur writes. "But Carter is not an option for the Raiders at No. 7, having already been crossed off by the team."

Why are the Raiders out on Jalen Carter?

We don't have to look too far to see why the Raiders are out on Carter at the moment. The franchise hasn't had the best of times with players who find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Receiver Henry Ruggs III was arrested back in 2021 after he was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death.

Damon Arnette was another Raiders player who found himself in trouble with the law multiple times, per TMZ.com. So, Carter's situation is likely a little too familiar for the organization.

Just where Jalen Carter gets drafted, if at all, remains to be seen, but the once highly touted draft pick is sliding down teams' draft boards. It is a big fall from grace for the Georgia Bulldog and his NFL dream appears to be hanging by a threat right now.
