When was the last time the Super Bowl was in Arizona? Looking back at Super Bowl XLIX

On Sunday, February 12, the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, will host the Super Bowl LVII. This is the third Super Bowl to be held at the Stadium since Super Bowl XXX, which was held there in 1996.

Super Bowls XLII and XLIX were previously held here in 2008 and 2015, respectively.

The Arizona Cardinals' home field, State Farm Stadium, was constructed in 2006. The location has staged two Super Bowls since it was built — the 42nd Super Bowl in 2008 and the 49th Super Bowl in 2015.

This will be the first occasion since 2019 that the local franchises of the Super Bowl site will not be in the postseason. The Cardinals struggled to get their act together during the regular season, finishing at the bottom of their NFC West table.

The AFC champion New England Patriots overcame the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks by a score of 28–24 in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.

The triumph by New England, their fourth altogether and first since Super Bowl XXXIX in 2004, put an end to a 10-year title drought. To qualify for their eighth Super Bowl participation, the Patriots concluded the regular season with a 12-4, matching the records set by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys. It became their sixth Super Bowl trip under quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick.

In addition, the Seattle Seahawks, who finished the season 12-4, competed in their third Super Bowl and second straight after winning Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks attempted to make history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back championships since New England in 2004.

Was Super Bowl XLIX the greatest Super Bowl ever?

While Super Bowl XLIX was one of the most thrilling games played in the recent past, not many consider it to be the greatest Super Bowl in the history of the league.

Instead, many NFL fans consider the 2017 Super Bowl between the Giants and the Patriots to be the greatest big game ever played. New England was undefeated their entire campaign but lost their final game of the season to Eli Manning's Giants.

Manning threw the game-winning pass in the final minute of the game when he picked out David Tyree, who made a leaping, one-handed catch by pinning the ball against his helmet.

How many Super Bowls has Arizona hosted?

Arizona has hosted a total of three Super Bowls in the past. The state will host its fourth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Chiefs face the Eagles in Super Bowl 57.

How Super Bowl XLIX became one of the most memorable Super Bowls in history

The nail-biting Super Bowl XLIX contest was decided in the final 20 seconds of the game when Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted a pass from Russell Wilson in the endzone.

It eventually ended in a stunning victory for the Patriots while the Seahawks were closing in on another touchdown.

Who headlined the Super Bowl in 2015?

Super Bowl XLIX's first half ended with pyrotechnics from the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. At the same time, Katy Perry also delivered some fireworks.

The superstar performed a mix of her best hits that finished with her hit Firework at the Super Bowl halftime show, showcasing her unique vocal skills.

Midway through the Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots game in Glendale, Arizona, Kate Perry took onto the stage and performed a selection of her many classics with Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott as special guests.

Rihanna will perform at this year's Super Bowl halftime show, according to the NFL. It's only fitting that Rihanna returns to the stage in historic fashion, given that the halftime show is one of the most sought-after spots in entertainment.

Although we don't know which songs she will deliver during the halftime performance, it will likely include many of her most well-known tracks from the past.
