Will Cowboys re-sign Dalton Schultz? 5 landing spots for Cowboys' TE

Dalton Schultz's future with the Dallas Cowboys was in doubt after the organization franchise-tagged him in the 2022 offseason instead of coming to a new contract agreement.

Tony Pollard's franchise tag by the Cowboys this year makes it increasingly likely that Schultz will play for a different team next season. It isn't easy to picture Schultz not wearing a Cowboys jersey. After failing to record more than 60 receptions or 600 yards in a season, it now appears like the Cowboys won't sign Schultz to a new contract.

What are some potential destinations for Schultz?

It goes without saying that Schultz might return to the Dallas Cowboys as his final destination.

He's locked with WR CeeDee Lamb for the second-most touchdown partnerships with Dak Prescott, with 15 touchdown receptions apiece. With 22 touchdown catches from Prescott, only wideout Amari Cooper has more.

Although the Cowboys' financial condition isn't ideal, general managers can always find solutions. The Cowboys could give Schultz the multi-year contract they were unable to agree to last season, thanks to the extra room created by the release of Ezekiel Elliott.

#2 Detroit Lions

T.J. Hockenson was dealt to the Minnesota Vikings by the Detroit Lions last year, opening a void at tight end.

Theoretically, the Lions could use a draft pick to address the position, but Dalton Schultz would suit fantasy and real football nicely. Last year, the Lions' tight ends totaled 12 TDs, nine of which were scored by Brock Wright and Shane Zylstra. They would do well to consider Schultz.

#3 Chicago Bears

This offseason, the Chicago Bears spent a lot of money assembling a group around Justin Fields. With the addition of Dalton Schultz, they have the chance to complete an overhaul.

Cole Kmet is a good tight end, but Schultz, an even more exciting pass catcher, would be a great acquisition. Despite Schultz's high cost, the Bears have the resources and pressing need to assist Fields in any way they can.

Even if they want to try to strengthen the offensive line, it might be less expensive to do it through the NFL draft. They can now spend money on free agents like they have been doing. With Schultz's arrival, they could continue the trend.

#4 Houston Texans

The Houston Texans could be a good fit for Dalton Schultz, as they have a ton of cap space and will probably choose a rookie quarterback in the draft.

Remember that Brandin Cooks, their top wide receiver for 2022, has departed the group. Schultz could also take on a lot of targets, as a young quarterback is anticipated to start at quarterback.

#5 Tennessee Titans

In 2022, after a 7-3 start, the Tennessee Titans just burned out on both sides of the field, finishing with a 7-10 record.

Whether it's Ryan Tannehill or someone else, the Titans' quarterback in 2023 needs more receiving options than Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Treylon Burks and Phillips. If he earns a deal, Dalton Schultz could be one of the top two targets in the Titans' attack.
