Alycia Parks will face Maryna Zanevska in the semi-finals of the Lyon Open on Friday.
Parks finished the 2022 season by winning back-to-back WTA 125 titles in France. She started the 2023 season at the Australian Open qualifiers and lost to Sara Beljek in the second round.
The 22-year-old then entered the Lyon Open and started the tournament with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win over Julia Grabher. She followed it up by beating fourth seed Petra Martic 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 and booking her place in the quarter-finals. Here, Parks beat seventh seed Danka Kovinic 7-5, 6-2 to seal her place in the semi-finals.
Maryna Zanevska, on the other hand, started the 2023 season by qualifying for the main draw of the Hobart International. The Belgian reached the second round of the tournament before losing 6-2, 6-3 to Sofia Kenin.
Zanevska then competed at the Australian Open and suffered a 6-2, 7-6(4) defeat to ninth seed Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round. She next competed at the Lyon Open and beat Hungarian Dalma Galfi 6-1, 7-6(3) in the opening round.
The 29-year-old then thrashed second seed Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-0 to book her place in the quarter-finals. Here, she came back from a set down to beat fifth seed Anastasia Potapova 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the top four.

Parks has already beaten two seeded players at the Lyon Open and will enter the match as the favorite to win and progress through to the final. The 22-year-old is a rising star and will fancy her chances of winning the WTA 250 tournament. However, Zanevska shouldn't be written off given that she made easy work of Zhang Shuai.
Parks' game is modeled on her strong serve and powerful groundstrokes. Her mental game will undoubtedly be put to the test but she has shown that she is capable of showing composure on the court.
Meanwhile, Zanevska has a pretty effective serve and will look to dominate her service games. The Belgian's return game has been pretty decent and it will come in handy while dealing with Parks' serve.
The American has looked in good touch lately and should be able to get the win and reach the Lyon Open final.
