Top seed Caroline Garcia will face Camila Osorio in the semi-finals of the Lyon Open on Saturday.

Garcia entered the tournament following a fourth-round exit at the Australian Open and started by beating Tereza Martincova 6-4, 7-6(4). She next faced Alison van Uytvanck in the round of 16 and made a superb comeback from a set down to win 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.

This set up a quarter-final clash against Italy's Jasmine Paolini. The first set of the match was tightly contested with neither player being able to break until Garcia did so in the final game to win 7-5.

Paolini made the first break of the second set to go 4-3 up but the Frenchwoman managed to break her back in the very next game. Garcia broke for the second time to win the second set 7-5 and book her place in the top four.

Camila Osorio, on the other hand, started her 2023 season at the Australian Open, where she reached the second round with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Panna Udvardy. Here, she lost 6-2, 6-3 to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

The Colombian then entered the Lyon Open and started by beating third seed Alize Cornet 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. She then triumphed 7-6(5), 7-5 over Jule Niemeier to book her place in the quarter-finals.

Here, the 21-year-old faced Linda Noskova and started the match strongly by making an early break. The Czech broke back but Osorio restored her one-break lead and eventually took the opening set 6-4. The second set was riddled with breaks and went to a tiebreak. Osorio won it 7-3 to book her place in the semi-finals.

Garcia will enter the match as the heavy favorite to win, but Osorio shouldn't be written off as she can be quite a formidable opponent on her day.

The World No. 5 has been very strong on her first serve throughout the Lyon Open, serving 24 aces and winning 97 out of 133 points (72.9%). Garcia will look to play aggressively from the start of the match and put pressure on Osorio. However, she also needs to be careful with her unforced errors.

Osorio's game is well-suited to clay courts but she has the tools to do well on hard courts as well. The Colombian is able to draw errors out of her opponent but is also capable of hitting the ball when the opportunity presents itself. She can mix her groundstrokes with effective slices and her footwork will also come in handy.

Osorio has served 19 double faults throughout the Lyon Open and cannot afford to do so against an opponent like Garcia.

While the Colombian is capable of putting up a fight, Garcia has been in good form and will have the crowd on her side. Hence, she should be able to come out on top and book a final berth in Lyon on Sunday.
