Sixth seed Andrey Rublev takes on tenth seed Jannik Sinner on Tuesday (March 28) for a place in the Miami Open quarterfinals.

World No. 7 Rublev has had two comfortable outings this week - beating J.J. Wolf and Miomir Kecmanovic without dropping a set - to improve to 13-7 on the season. The 2021 semifinalist is now 10-7 in Miami, having lost in the opening round last year.

Rublev has had a steady if not spectacular season. After opening with successive losses, the Russian made the Australian Open quarterfinals (losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic).

Following an opening-round exit in Rotterdam, Rublev made the Doha quarterfinals. However, his title defense at the Dubai Tennis Championships was ended by his compatriot Daniil Medvedev. The 25-year-old is coming off a Round of 16 showing at Indian Wells last week.

Meanwhile, the 11th-ranked Sinner has also had two facile outings this week, beating Laslo Djere and 21st seed Grigor Dimitrov for the loss of one set. He's now 18-4 in 2023. Having made the quarterfinals last year, the 2021 finalist has improved to an impressive 10-2 in Miami.

Except Marseille, the 21-year-old has made it to at least the second round in the five other tournaments he has played this year. Sinner made the last eight at Adelaide 1 before reaching the second week at the Australian Open.

He brought up his first title of the season at Montpellier before losing to Medvedev in the Rotterdam final. Sinner came into this tournament on the back of a semifinal loss to eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells.

There is little to separate Rublev and Sinner in terms of their game style. Both are quintessential baseliners and possess strong hardcourt games.

Rublev and Sinner both tend to serve big and hit powerfully off either flank. The Italian, though, is the better mover, thanks to his elite athleticism, and also has a penchant for hitting winners from seemingly inconceivable angles.

The two players match up well against each other, making this a tough contest to call. Both have momentum coming into this clash, but expect the steadier Sinner to take the win.

Prediction: Sinner in three sets
