Alycia Parks' serve reminds her of Serena Williams' at its peak, says Rennae Stubbs

Former doubles World No. 1 Rennae Stubbs has heaped praise on Alycia Parks, claiming that she has what it takes to become a Grand Slam champion some day.

Parks enjoyed a terrific last week, winning the Lyon Open by stunning World No. 5 Caroline Garcia 7-6(5), 7-5 in the final. It was the 22-year-old's maiden WTA singles title, which propelled her to a career-best 51st in the world rankings.

Lauding Parks on The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, Rennae Stubbs likened her serve to that of Serena Williams at her peak. She also backed her to become a top-10 player within the next 12 months.

"She's won like 15 matches in a row indoors, so she plays great indoors. Her serve is, I'm telling you, when they're coming at me, I'm on. Oh my god, it's like Serena peak, that's how good her serve is when it goes in.
"I'm telling you she's a potential top-10 player within the next 12 months. She's got to keep obviously the body healthy. She's a strong girl, a strong, strong girl," Stubbs said.

The Aussie called Parks a great talent and expects her to create fireworks if she gets the right coaching and maintains the right physicality.

"I think she is a great talent and I actually think there is so much upswing for her if she can get the right coaching, get the right physicality, makes sure she doesn't get injured. This girl has every, every power tool in the world and can be without question a Grand Slam champion one day," Stubbs said.

Alycia Parks was left short of words after winning her maiden WTA singles title. The American stated that she focused on her service games and fought for each point throughout the final.

"It feels amazing to hold my first WTA tour-level championship trophy. Words can’t explain. Just last year, I was in an [ITF Challenger] $60,000 final, and now I have won a WTA 250," Parks said.

"I made sure I focused on my service games today to get through the match, because I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy match. So just staying within myself, and fighting for every point, and that got me through the match," she added.

Parks will next compete at the Linz Open, where she will face fourth seed Anhelina Kalinina in the first round.
