"Russian sportsmen obviously support their president" - Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko hits out at Russian athletes after recent army video

Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko is hitting back at Russian athletes for supporting their country's invasion of Ukraine and actively contributing to the same.

A recent video of Russian soldiers surfaced where the soldiers can be seen thanking the Russian Olympic Gymnastics team for their support due to which the Russian army could buy a quadrocopter which is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone.

Tsurenko took to her Instagram stories to call out the athletes' involvement. She shared a video posted by compatriot Oleg Verniaiev, who is an Olympic gymnast.

She also sarcastically added a clapping emoji for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) who, on January 25, released a statement of solidarity with Ukraine, however, did not ban any Russian or Belarusian players from competing. They can compete in the Olympics as 'neutral athletes'.

She also added another story showcasing the Olympic logo in red with different types of atrocities by the Russians in different parts of Ukraine.

Elina Svitolina at the 2021 US Open

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Monfils, formerly known as Elina Svitolina, has shown her support towards the famous Ukrainian TV and radio host Anatoly Anatolich.

He has called out US Olympic and Paralympic Committee head Suzanne Lyons for stating that athletes should not be victims of state policy or other tensions that exist in the world, as she tries to separate sports from politics.

Anatolich also called out the Olympics for hosting the 1936 edition in Germany in the presence of Adolf Hitler.

He also mentions Ukrainian footballers Andriy Shevchenko and Mykhailo Mudryk, boxer Oleksandr Usyk and tennis player Elina Svitolina who are symbols of the country who are at war with evil. He suggests sports can never be out of politics.

"Is sports out of politics? And imagine the silence of Shevchenko, Usyk, Mudryk, Svitolina? It is impossible to imagine, because each of them is a symbol of the country. A country at war with absolute evil."

Svitolina supported Anatolich's post by reposting the same on her Instagram story and also commented with emojis on the post.
