The Big Dog hasn't been in the world title picture since his return earlier this year

3 reasons Roman Reigns will never be WWE World Champion again and 3 reasons he will be

One of WWE's most divisive figures of all time, he is either a hard-working Superstar who is trying to lead the company or the latest muscle-clad Hogan-esque monster, depending on who you agree with.

Since returning from his leukemia diagnosis though, Reigns has been kept away from the world title picture, a spot that many of his critics argued the Big Dog hogged for far too long.

Focusing on feuds with the likes of Drew McIntyre and most recently Shane McMahon instead, many fans have been left wondering whether the Big Dog will be WWE or Universal Champion ever again.

Here are three reasons Roman Reigns will never hold a WWE or Universal Championship again, as well as three reasons why he will.

#3 He won't: His leukemia is a risk

Reigns forfeited the Universal Championship on RAW in 2018 following the return of his leukemia

In October 2018, the career and Universal Championship run of Roman Reigns were put on hold when the Big Dog announced that the leukemia he had battled in his youth had returned.

After a truly shocking and heart-wrenching moment, Reigns would spend several months away from the ring, though he has thankfully been able to return. And though everyone is pleased to see the Big Dog back, having their top star forfeit a championship, never mind a World Championship, is something WWE never want.

As cruel as it sounds, WWE may be hesitant to put the top prize on Reigns again, as his leukemia, which he will be battling for the rest of his life, has made him a special case. Roman may have a long and historic career ahead of him, but a fifth World Championship may not be on the cards.

#3 He will: He's the face of the company

The Big Dog has represented WWE well in countless media appearances

Regardless of how fans may think of Roman Reigns' ability in the ring, it's hard to deny the Big Dog's presence outside the squared circle. Like a modern-day Superman, Reigns stands for all that is good in the world and has certainly proven himself as a top star through a variety of public appearances.

Whether it be on the radio, in TV interviews or at various charity events, the former World Champion has always carried himself not only as a representative of the company, but his squeaky clean image certainly portrays the company in a good light.

Well-spoken and polite, it's no wonder why WWE have used him as a company spokesperson on many occasions, and he'd look even better in the public image with a world title draped on his shoulder.

#2 He won't: He doesn't need it

Arguably Reigns' biggest win, his WrestleMania 33 defeat of The Undertaker, wasn't for a title

The WWE and Universal Championships may be hailed as the top prizes in WWE, but we all know that sometimes, this isn't the case.

With the influx of part-timers in recent years such as Goldberg, Triple H, The Undertaker and even Shawn Michaels, it is clear that there are some Superstars who are just as big, with or without the gold.

Roman Reigns is one such star.

Since his meteoric rise to the top of WWE, Reigns has been involved in some huge feuds without the title being a factor, including handing the Phenom his second ever loss at WrestleMania, in 2017.

With the title being on smaller stars such as Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins, Reigns clearly doesn't need championship gold to be taken as a considerable threat in WWE.

#2 He will: He's been there before

Reigns is no stranger to championship gold in the WWE

Though he may not hold gold presently, Roman Reigns is no stranger to championship glory in WWE. A Triple Crown and Grand Slam winner, Reigns is also a former Royal Rumble winner, a three-time WWE Champion and former Universal Champion.

With all this success, Reigns knows the responsibility of being a champion in WWE, and has almost always carried him as one. Plus, it's clear that the company are often reliant on former champions to carry the company banner, often at a detriment to younger stars (for example, Lesnar capturing his second Universal title over Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel).

Reigns was bred and honed by WWE to be a champion, so don't be too surprised if the top prizes in the entire company end up in Roman's hands sooner rather than later.

#1 He won't: The fans are finally embracing him

Reigns' story of hope has turned even the most fervent of critics into fans

Despite being pushed consistently as a babyface, the road to having fans cheer the Big Dog has not been easy. As many fans thought Reigns was pushed over more 'deserving' stars, there were plenty who booed Reigns throughout his career, until his shocking leukemia announcement in 2018.

Returning months later, Reigns' story back has been miraculous, and even the most fervent of critics can't help but respect the former World Champion's tenacity and love for the business.

Putting Reigns into a world title feud would undo a lot of that good grace, as fans would quickly be reminded of the Samoan's multiple shots at the title against foes like Brock Lesnar and Triple H. If WWE wants this wave of positivity by the fans to continue, Reigns should be nowhere near a world title.

#1 He will: He's a popular guy

Despite feuding in 2016, it's clear that Triple H is a big fan of Roman Reigns

Though fans may have differing opinions about Roman Reigns, one place he certainly is popular is backstage. As a locker-room leader, there haven't been many, if any, negative stories about Reigns' conduct backstage, as it seems everyone has something good to say about him.

The Big Dog has also been endorsed by some powerful figures, including Triple H and Vince McMahon. Whilst Reigns has feuded with both men and emerged on top both times, it's clear that the two most powerful figures in WWE are high on the former WWE World Champion.

With so much positivity about Reigns both from his fellow employees and the higher-ups in the sports entertainment juggernaut, don't be surprised if Reigns gets thrust back to where he was before his leukemia diagnosis very soon.
