3 reasons why Dean Ambrose’s heel turn is perfectly timed

WWE Monday Night Raw on October 22 was one of the most eventful editions of the brand, as we saw a few crucial moments on the episode.

The night started emotionally and left quite a few hearts broken, as Roman Reigns was forced to vacate the Universal Championship to fight his own health battles.

Later in the night, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were scheduled to do battle with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre for the Raw tag team titles. The remaining two members of The Shield dedicated the match to Roman Reigns, as they were all pumped up to win the match.

After a great match, we saw Braun Strowman walk out to chase Drew McIntyre away from the ring, leaving Ziggler alone to defend the titles. This also confirmed that Strowman was now done with attacking The Shield and being a heel, and had his eyes set on the Scottish Psychopath as a face.

After defeating Ziggler, Rollins, and Ambrose were able to lift the tag team titles to the delight of the fans, and the win would have been a great way to end the night in dedication to Roman Reigns.

This was not to be, as Dean Ambrose’s dirty side came out and he delivered a Dirty Deeds to Seth Rollins, followed by an unforgiving attack on his former partner and current Intercontinental Champion, turning heel most unexpectedly.

Even though many will argue that WWE was wrong to turn Dean Ambrose heel on the same night Roman Reigns had to vacate his championship, it can also be said that it was the correct move on the right night. Here are 3 reasons why Ambrose’s heel turn is perfectly timed.

#1 Raw needs a top-level heel

Raw is deprived of top-level heels

Raw has seen a few turns recently, but none have matched the level of turn Dean Ambrose portrayed this week on Raw.

Braun Strowman turned heel a few weeks ago in his quest to take the Universal Championship away from Roman Reigns, to the surprise of the fans. Strowman was doing great as a face, and was on his way to becoming one of the top faces of the brand.

WWE soon realised their mistake, and turned Strowman after he was attacked by his temporary partner Drew McIntyre.

Kevin Owens, another established heel in the WWE, has been ruled out for a few months due to injury, and without him, only a handful of top-level superstars are left as heels on the Raw roster.

Enter Dean Ambrose, who can play the character extremely well as he has always had the looks of a heel. He’s done great in the past, and there is little doubt that he can do the same again.

#2 Confirms that his problem was with Seth Rollins

Ambrose made his intentions very clear

The October 22 edition of Raw saw one of the most emotional beginnings to the show. Roman Reigns announced that he was relinquishing his Universal Championship in order to battle with leukemia that had raised its ugly head once again after 11 years.

After his promo, we saw the other two members of The Shield walk out and embrace their brother, which marked the end of The Shield for now.

With that said, it made perfect sense that the current alliance of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose wasn’t required anymore, and Dean had teased turning on Rollins a couple of times this month.

However, no one even imagined that WWE would choose the same night for Dean Ambrose to turn heel and bury The Shield for good. It came as one of the biggest surprises in recent memory even though it was an expected move.

The move also cemented the fact that Dean Ambrose was still loyal to Roman Reigns, and only had a problem with Seth Rollins. As soon as Reigns walked out of the picture, he took little time to turn heel against the man who had done so years ago against him and Reigns.

Brutally attacking Seth Rollins, while Rollins only muttered the words ‘Why?’ constantly, showing that he too was unaware that such a move would take place. Especially after Reigns’ extremely emotional announcement, and after they won the Raw tag team titles and dedicated the match to Roman Reigns.

#3 Increases the value of the Intercontinental Title

These two men have increased the value of the title even more

The Miz, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins have all significantly helped increase the value of the championship in the past five years.

The fact that the championship was being defended much more regularly than the Universal Championship when Brock Lesnar had his illustrious run made many fans believe that the Intercontinental Title was more valuable than the Universal Championship.

Seth Rollins has had an impressive run with the title, and now after turning heel, Dean Ambrose will not only want to make Rollins suffer, but also want to take his championship away from him.

This can give fans of Raw a Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles sort of rivalry, which did very well on the SmackDown brand. Both superstars are extremely talented, and play their characters flawlessly.

With bouts between the two for the Intercontinental Championship, the value of the title will surely increase even more as there will be a battle of in-ring skills, talent, and mind games.

While the battle for the Universal Championship will be a battle of brute force, size, and strength for the next few months, the Intercontinental title will continue to test the better wrestlers on the roster.
