Will the No Holds Barred tag team match headline Extreme Rules 2019?

3 reasons why the No Holds Barred Tag Team match could headline Extreme Rules 2019

We are less than a day away from the 2019 edition of Extreme Rules. As of now, we are set to witness ten matches during the event ranging from normal singles matches to mixed tag team Extreme Rules matches with multiple major titles at stake.

There are many intriguing matchups like the singles bout between the current United States Champion Ricochet and AJ Styles, and the Extreme Rules Mixed tag team match between the team of the Universal Champion Seth Rollins, and the RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch and the team of Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans.

However, one of the most anticipated matches of the night is between the team of Roman Reigns and The Undertaker and the team of Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon. The two teams will clash in a No Holds Barred match.

In my opinion, over all other matches of the night, this tag team clash will headline the event. In this article, we will take a look at a few reasons why the No Holds Barred tag team match will headline Extreme Rules 2019.

#3 No other matches are "big enough"

As mentioned earlier, we have ten bouts for the night, including both the Universal Title and the WWE Title at stake. However, the WWE Title bout is held under normal stipulations, thus making it "kayfabe" unfit to headline the event. The Universal Title is held under mixed tag team stipulation - making it a less serious contender for the main event.

The only other bout which could challenge the Deadman would be the Last Man Standing battle between Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley. However, since WWE are not big on either of them, we do not see them headlining the event.

#2 The star power

The Undertaker has headlined three PPVs in the last 12 months

Love it or not, Roman Reigns is, without an iota of doubt, WWE's biggest full-time Superstar on the roster. Similarly, The Undertaker is one of WWE's biggest stars of all time. No other matches during the event possess better star power.

Moreover, The Undertaker is on a streak. After his Casket Match against Rusev at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, The Phenom has only contested in the main events of WWE PPVs.

The Undertaker faced Triple H in the main event of Super Show-Down in Melbourne, Australia. He teamed up with his "brother" Kane to take on DX in the main event of Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and quite recently the Deadman faced Goldberg in the main event of Super Showdown in Jeddah. WWE would be looking forward to using the Deadman as the main event attraction from now on.

#1 To end the night on a cliff hanger

There is nothing better than a good cliff hanger to close out a show

WWE changed the match stipulation between the team of The Undertaker and Roman Reigns and the team of Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre from a normal tag team bout to a No Holds Barred match within a week. WWE creatives do not go for such a change quite often unless they have something in their mind. It is quite probable that the bout would not end in a clean fashion.

It is a known fact that WWE is apparently struggling to maintain their TV ratings. WWE needs to build a proper storyline before SummerSlam and at the moment, WWE does not have much to go by. Thus, ending Extreme Rules with a brilliant cliff hanger would not only help the PPV garner better reviews but also would make the fans tune in to watch the next episode of RAW.
