3 reasons why The Undertaker teaming with Roman Reigns is a bad idea & 3 reasons it's a good one

On the episode of WWE RAW after Stomping Grounds 2019, Roman Reigns was brutalized by Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre, only to be saved by the most unexpected name possible - The Undertaker.

In the latest WWE NEWS, we know that Roman Reigns and The Undertaker have history together. It was a little over two years ago when Reigns "retired" The Phenom. They even teamed up together in a live event at one point later (a match that also saw them team with Braun Strowman) and they seemingly shook hands, letting bygones be bygones.

Later in the show, WWE confirmed the tag team match. Roman Reigns will be teaming up with The Undertaker to take on Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon. While the match has obviously turned a lot of heads, there's still a lot of mixed reaction since it is The Undertaker in 2019.

However, there are two sides to it as there is with everything and here are a few reasons why it's good and a few why it's bad!

#3. Why it's a bad idea: It doesn't make any storyline sense

It's interesting to see that in the Extreme Rules tag team match, The Undertaker will be facing Drew McIntyre and his WrestleMania 32 opponent Shane McMahon, all while he teams up with his WrestleMania 33 opponent Roman Reigns.

From a storyline perspective, this makes no sense whatsoever. What incentive does The Undertaker have to help the man who supposedly "retired" him? Moreover, he showed a lot of respect to Shane McMahon when he was SmackDown Live commissioner.

Where does The Undertaker play into this whole story? Why is he helping Reigns? He has nothing to prove against Shane McMahon either. All of it simply doesn't add up and it's led to a lot of confusion.

#3. Why it's a good idea: Roman Reigns can protect his weaknesses

People forget that at WrestleMania 33, it was Roman Reigns who had to carry The Undertaker through the match. The Phenom looked worse than ever, being slow and old and making multiple botches during the match.

It was quite painful to watch and Roman Reigns may have been the most hated man in all of wrestling at the time, but he wasn't given credit for helping protect The Undertaker. The good part of this match is that Roman Reigns can actually help protect him again.

Since it's a tag team match, The Undertaker's presence alone will be enough. There's no doubt that it's going to be Roman Reigns who will be doing the heavy lifting for the team, going out of his way to make The Undertaker look good. It'll be interesting to see.

#2. Why it's a bad idea: The Undertaker shouldn't wrestle so often

The Undertaker has been vocal about being "selective" of his dates

The Undertaker wasn't a fan of his 2018 schedule. He wrestled an unusually higher amount of matches and even had back-to-back matches at Super ShowDown and WWE Crown Jewel. Both performances were painful to watch and in an out-of-character interview, The Undertaker revealed that he had some regret over wrestling so often.

He stated that he wanted to be more picky about his dates - a right that he's absolutely earned. However, the fact of the matter is that The Undertaker wrestling is still painful to watch and many feel as though he should have retired four years ago (because he absolutely should have).

So watching The Undertaker wrestle doesn't become as exciting as a result of this. Either way, one can only hope that going forward, he actually is more picky of his dates. Fans assumed that they'll only see him in Saudi Arabia shows.

#2. Why it's a good idea: It's a special attraction match

One of two special attraction matches

The fact of the matter is that no matter how much we criticise The Undertaker, his matches are always special attraction bouts. He has been a special attraction for a few years now.

We also mustn't forget that with regards to The Undertaker, no matter how many people on the internet complain about it, the casual audience very likely still loves The Undertaker beyond belief and are always happy to see him no matter how old he gets or how bad his matches are.

This is a special attraction match, and don't be surprised if it's the main event as well. Becky Lynch & Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans ideally should be the main event because the stakes are much higher (winner takes all match), but since the star power on this one is bigger, don't be surprised to see it go on last.

#1. Why it's a bad idea: Undertaker matches haven't been exciting in years

This should have been it

This is the harsh reality of The Undertaker's current WWE career that people have been saying for years. When was the last great Undertaker match that you remember seeing? Perhaps the last good match he had was in 2015 against Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell, but since then, it's all been downhill.

We can give multiple examples to prove it. Last year, his Super ShowDown match against Triple H was painful to watch. The Goldberg match at Super ShowDown this year was painful to watch. His alleged "retirement" match against Roman Reigns two years ago was painful to watch.

As much as we love and respect The Undertaker for all that he's done for the business, the reality of it is that his matches contain no excitement and all the attraction in it is only due to the nostalgia factor.

#1. Why it's a good idea: The unpredictability aspect

Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre try to process what just happened

What we will give WWE credit for in this case is the entire unpredictability of things. Nobody saw The Undertaker being the one to save Roman Reigns. In fact, nobody expected anyone to help Roman Reigns.

People expected that it would be another case of Roman Reigns fighting the odds, but in a rather positive twist, The Undertaker appeared. As we said, the casual fanbase being drawn into this match is a huge thing and there will undoubtedly be a lot of casuals tuning in to watch Roman Reigns team with The Undertaker.

While the two babyfaces are obviously expected to win, the best part is that we have no idea what the fallout of this is going to be. Will The Undertaker have another story from this? Will there be another twist? Watch and find out!
