3 SummerSlam rumors we hope are true and 3 we hope aren't: Top star to wrestle injured, Vince McMahon cancels huge PPV match

The road to WWE SummerSlam 2019 has all but concluded and we're now only a couple of days away from the biggest party of the summer! It's been quite an interesting week, although we must admit that the go-home shows this week were a little bit on the weaker side.

Regardless, the SummerSlam card looks quite good on paper and as long as WWE doesn't take the "more is more" approach like they do nowadays with WrestleMania, they should have a good show. The only thing going against them in that regard is the fact that the main card is expected to be upwards 5 hours long. That's undoubtedly going to take a toll, but with that being said, there are going to be a lot of things that will happen at the second biggest PPV of the year.

#3. Hope is true: Drew McIntyre could still have a SummerSlam match

We must admit, there is some disappointment in the fact that Drew McIntyre isn't facing The Undertaker. They seemingly even teased a match between the two superstars at WWE Extreme Rules 2019, but The Deadman isn't even on the card.

Over the past few weeks, McIntyre has been busy in a small rivalry with Cedric Alexander that hasn't been added to the SummerSlam 2019 card. However, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that there are still plans to add Drew McIntyre vs Cedric Alexander in the last minute, while Ali vs Shinsuke Nakamura and Roman Reigns vs Daniel Bryan is a 'no-go'.

This would definitely be an interesting match as Cedric Alexander and Drew McIntyre both deserve the spotlight at the PPV.

#3. We hope isn't true: Why Vince McMahon cancelled a top SummerSlam match

This match took place earlier than expected

Sami Zayn was constantly calling out Aleister Black for a match at WWE SummerSlam 2019. While there were plans for them to face off at the biggest party of the summer, fans were surprised when WWE nixed that and advanced the match to this week's episode of SmackDown Live instead.

Aleister Black would go on to win the contest, but when asked about why their match took place on SmackDown Live and not SummerSlam, Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio said:

So the deal with Aleister Black and Sami Zayn was when Vince showed up and didn't like SmackDown. He tore the whole show apart. When he was done with the stuff he didn't like and then changing the main event, they had an hour to fill. And so one of the ideas for that hour was, well, what can we do in this hour? Let's put Aleister Black's match with Sami Zayn on. So, that was one of the things they did to fill the hole.

We hope this isn't true because both men deserved a spot on that card.

#2. We hope is true: Why Dolph Ziggler is facing Goldberg

Dolph Ziggler looks on in shock

RAW this past week saw the last-minute addition of the heavily rumoured match between Dolph Ziggler and Goldberg. It does make a lot of sense because, for the last few weeks, Ziggler was incessantly trashing Goldberg in his promos, leading many to believe that there may have been legitimate backstage heat for his match against The Undertaker at Saudi Arabia.

However, while that may not be fully false, they certainly milked it to make fans think so. Now, there are also many wondering why Ziggler of all superstars was chosen to face Goldberg. Sportskeeda's own Tom Colohue reported that the reason why Ziggler vs Goldberg was booked is that Ziggler is versatile and can make anybody look good. A source told him

“For his experience. Everyone looks good wrestling with Dolph. WWE loves Dolph. There’s nothing he can’t do.”

We hope this is true because Ziggler does deserve a big marquee match and hopefully a big payday as well.

#2. We hope isn't true: SummerSlam won't be Goldberg's last bout

Goldberg signs for his SummerSlam match

WrestleMania 33 in many ways was the perfect ending to Goldberg's career. He had his dream comeback run, won a World Championship and took on his adversary and put him over clean to end his career.

However, he decided to come back for a match at Saudi Arabia against The Undertaker and while we can't blame him for wanting to take a relatively easy and fat paycheque, he looked completely out of place and a shell of his former self in that match.

Fans assumed that it would mean the end of Goldberg and that he won't be stepping in the ring again, but it seems as though he wants to do so purely to prove that he can still go. Unfortunately, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Goldberg "has his role" and as long as he's under Paul Heyman, will be protected as such to make sure that such disasters don't happen.

We hope it isn't true because it's high time Goldberg sits back for good and let his legacy do the talking.

#1. We hope is true: An angle to further the Reigns-Bryan storyline

Roman Reigns found out the identity of his attacker
Ad

Perhaps the best serious storyline going on in WWE right now is the Roman Reigns attacker story. On RAW, he was almost hit by an unknown assailant in a car and on SmackDown Live, he beat the truth out of Buddy Murphy - who revealed that Rowan was the attacker.

While Daniel Bryan has denied these allegations, fans were surprised at the fact that Roman Reigns nor Daniel Bryan is on the SummerSlam 2019 card. However, this is because there is a big plan in place for an angle to happen at SummerSlam between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The "career-altering" announcement that Daniel Bryan was set to make is now scrapped and you can expect an angle to further their storyline at SummerSlam. It will lead to something in the next PPV.

#1. We hope isn't true: Ricochet working through Summerslam injured

Ricochet is set for a huge match at SummerSlam
Ad

Ricochet is all set for what is probably the biggest match of his career so far. He takes on The Phenomenal AJ Styles in a rematch from Extreme Rules for the United States Championship.

Ricochet is in a great position in WWE right now as he is clearly being built as a future top superstar. However, that push may be delayed a bit longer as Ricochet is reportedly working through an elbow injury, according to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio.

He supposedly has an infection of sorts and will be working the match at SummerSlam injured. This probably means that he won't win the match, which is a shame given that the story makes it perfect for him to be the winner.

However, there is some positivity in that he will still be pushed and protected well afterwards.
