Superstars like Brock Lesnar, The Fiend, Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch and Charlotte are going to be present at the show. Fans are well aware of the fact that many surprise returns are likely to occur at the Royal Rumble and since it's the first pay-per-view of this decade, WWE will want to develop some momentum and get the ball rolling. Quite a few names are currently rumored to make a comeback at Royal Rumble, and in this article, we are going to discuss them. Additionally, we will also discuss two names the WWE Universe wants to return as well.

#5 Rumored to return at Royal Rumble: Edge

Edge has been long gone from the WWE ring. He retired in the early 2010s after a career-ending injury.

Since then, the Rated-R Superstar has been away from any sort of in-ring action. Last year, however, he performed his signature move, spear, on Elias further fueling the rumors of his comeback.

We didn't get to see that happen but since WrestleZone's Bruce Prichard has almost confirmed Edge's return, it could come to fruition. Will it be a one-off appearance or something much bigger? That remains a mystery, at least as of now.

Here’s what Mike Johnson of PWInsider had to say about Edge’s return:

"We've heard that Edge signed a new deal with WWE that has a pretty nice upside. We also reported a few months ago he was in Pittsburgh for WWE business and that's where WWE Wellness Policy head Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered. My gut feeling is we'll see Edge in the Royal Rumble as a surprise (as that seems like the perfect place to make a big splash with a return for Wrestlemania season) and possibly even see him do a few matches on major events."

#4 We wish could return at Royal Rumble: Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has been away from the WWE ring, ever since she lost her Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 35.

She made her shocking debut at Royal Rumble 2 years ago. Doesn't it make sense for her to return at the same pay-per-view this time around?

It's been months since Ronda Rousey suffered an injury. She's probably fit enough to return now. Probably, WWE is waiting for the right moment to let that happen. And Royal Rumble seems to be the perfect spot. Especially after considering that this year's Women's Royal Rumble match isn't making a buzz on the internet.

When The Rowdy One finally returns to the WWE ring, she could continue her rivalry with Becky Lynch with whom she has some unfinished business. Both Superstars could square off against each other at WrestleMania 36 and provide that one-on-one match fans have been waiting for.

#3 Rumored to return at Royal Rumble: Paige

Former Diva's Champion Paige recently joked about her return at the Royal Rumble. She confirmed her entry to the Rumble match to get herself a ticket to Suplex City.

While this was clearly humor from her side, could it lead to something? To be precise, her return?

Paige has indeed suffered a life-threatening injury and her return to the ring could paralyze her. But if Daniel Bryan can come back, why can't she too? It's a possibility. Even if it seems unlikely.

Here's what Triple H said when Sportskeeda's Gary Cassidy questioned him about the possibility of Paige and Edge's return:

When you're talking about people as talented as Edge and Paige, who wouldn't want them to return? I'm a fan, just like everyone else, and, yeah, I'd love to see them step into the ring and compete. More importantly than that, though, I'd like to see them live long and healthy lives.

A little while ago, Paige said that her “glory days” are far from over yet, and with that, she could be referring to her in-ring career. Is there any truth in her statement? For that, we will have to wait until Royal Rumble!

#2 We wish could return at Royal Rumble: CM Punk

Well, who wouldn’t want to witness the return of CM Punk? The Cult of Personality surprised the world when he debuted at WWE Backstage. Although he claims to be working for FOX, he’s technically a WWE personality as well.

In the past, Punk has denied claims that he would be returning to the wrestling ring. Now that he is working under the WWE banner once again, we can hope for something more too.

When Paige joked that she is considering a return at Royal Rumble, Punk replied to her Tweet with a SpiderMan GIF (this one), indicating that he is thinking the same.

While we don’t know whether or not these two wrestlers will appear on January 26, it’s evident that the WWE Universe will never stop craving for CM Punk’s return to the ring. After all, it’s Royal Rumble -- a pay-per-view known for surprise returns -- and it’s the show's theme to make such things happen. Maybe this year is going to be different for Punk's fans.

#1 Rumored to return at Royal Rumble: Jinder mahal

Ad

A patellar tendon rupture has kept Jinder Mahal away from the WWE ring since last June. Mahal had a rollercoaster of the past few years in the company.

From an unexpected WWE Championship victory to winning the 24/7 Title from R-Truth, he fell off from the grace quicker than many had expected.

Recently Jinder hinted that he will 'be back soon' through his Instagram account. Also, as per current reports, Mahal could return at Royal Rumble pay-per-view, since it's the current plan. However, we don't know whether he will be a part of the Royal Rumble match or not.

Since the past few months, Jinder has been stuck in the mid-card scene and while being talented, the creative team isn’t making good use of him. He can do a lot more than being a comedic character in WWE if the management does things right. Mahal is one of the most athletic wrestlers in WWE, and the heat he generates with his work can ascend him to the top as a heel.

Which of these wrestlers’ returns do you want to see at Royal Rumble? Have your say in the comments below.
