It was quite the night last night for AEW

4 Not-So-Subtle shots AEW fired at WWE as part of Double or Nothing

AEW Double or Nothing took place last night live from Las Vegas and it was an incredibly stacked show that included a number of former WWE superstars. Some of the stand out names obviously included Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, Tye Dillinger (who's now known as Shawn Spears), Goldust, Bret Hart, Kenny Omega and even Jon Moxley. The total amount of former WWE stars on the show was 18, but it seems that the subtle digs from AEW to their closest competition didn't stop there.

Of course, Triple H made a dig at All Elite Wrestling as part of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony earlier this year which meant that the company had to balance the playing field by firing a few shots of their own as part of their first official pay-per-view.

These shots were probably not all that subtle at all.

#4. Dean Ambrose is now AEW

Dean Ambrose only left WWE at the end of April and merely 25 days after he released the video that teased the return of Jon Moxley he is contracted to AEW. WWE pushed for Ambrose to stay and even gave him one of the best send offs that they have ever given a superstar that refuses to re-sign with the company but it appears that this wasn't enough.

Ambrose appeared after the match between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho had concluded. He then delivered the move he made famous on WWE TV called The Dirty Deeds before he went on to destroy both stars.

Ambrose's catchprase before WWE was "Explicit, Mox, Violence" but now he's taking a huge shot at WWE with his new merchandise line "Unscripted, Mox, Violence."

Ambrose showing up in AEW was a huge shock since his wife is still employed by WWE and the company seemingly expected him to return, so keeping his WWE finisher could have been one of strangest moves of all.

#3. Bret Hart's unveil

Monday Night on Raw, WWE called in Hall of Famer Mick Foley to unveil their newest WWE title which they called the 24/7 Championship. Foley himself said the unveiling didn't go to plan and over the past week, many former WWE stars have commented on the fact that the addition of the title was a mistake.

Last night, AEW unveiled their own Championship and in true WWE fashion, they decided to call in WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart to do so. Whilst this was a dig to WWE from Raw, the shots continued to be fired as MJF made his way out to the ring and shouted to warn Bret that a fan was coming.

This was a shot at the fact that a fan attacked the WWE Hall of Famer as he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of The Hart Foundation back in April.

#2. Those attendance figures

AEW fired shots at WWE regarding their attendance figures

Attendance figures are a huge deal to WWE since the company keeps track of all the records that they are able to create in arenas all over the world. There was a little bit of controversy a few years ago when it was reported that WWE set an attendance record for WrestleMania 32 at over 100,000.

This was later stated to have been pushed up a little bit more than the real attendance, but a few years later at WrestleMania 34, there were reports that the company had done the same thing again.

Interestingly, last night as part of AEW Double or Nothing, The Elite announced that they had broken the record for the MGM Stadium with 20,000 fans which was an obvious dig at WWE and the fact that they are always inflating their attendance figures to create records.

This was also a dig at the fact that attendance figures for WWE over the past few months have been on a slide whilst AEW didn't have any issues last night.

#1. Triple H's throne

Cody Rhodes sent a direct message to Triple H with this dig

Triple H calls himself the King of Kings and over the years he has made some iconic entrances that have included him rising from his throne as a king before taking up his sledgehammer and doing battle.

Last night at Double or Nothing, Cody Rhodes wife Brandy handed him a sledgehammer and watched gleefully as the former star strutted up the ramp in true triple H style and destroyed a throne as a direct message to Triple H himself following his dig at AEW back in April.

Triple H brought up the company as part of DX's Hall of Fame induction speech and it was quite obvious last night that Cody and Brandy were sending a message to the King of Kings and letting him know that he is no longer the man on that throne.
