4 things WWE could do with John Morrison

John Morrison was once the most promising up and comer in all of WWE.

Morrison did almost everything in the WWE mid card, including being the WWE ECW Champion, a three-time Intercontinental Champion and five-time Tag Team Champion. During his Tag Team title reigns, he was apart of two of WWE's greatest ever tag teams as MNM with Joey Mercury and his tandem with The Miz.

Morrison had several highly impressive performances with top talent like Chris Jericho, Edge, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and Sheamus. This would lead to Morrison having briefly found himself in the WWE Championship picture in 2011, before falling out just as quickly and leaving WWE by the end of the year.

Morrison has since had great success in Lucha Underground as Johnny Mundo, where he was a triple crown Champion, and in Impact Wrestling as Johnny Impact where he was their Heavyweight Champion. Johnny Impact departed Impact Wrestling this past July and has since been rumored to have signed on to return to WWE, although has denied the reports himself.

So whether or not has secretly signed a new contract with WWE, or if he hasn't but does in the future, here are what I think are WWE's top four best options to do with him, should he return.

#4 WWE Intercontinental/United States Championship Ranks

One of the best IC Champs
Ad

John Morrison was, as we mentioned, a three-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and was probably one of the better champions in WWE during his reigns.

Often stealing the show, Morrison's IC Championship matches with Jeff Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, Carlito, Rey Mysterio and more, were often the best matches of the night. And this was really saying something when you consider the WWE Heavyweight Champions at the time of his IC title reigns were the like of John Cena, Edge, CM Punk and The Undertaker.

Today in WWE, both the WWE Intercontinental Championship and United States Championship are being held by strong Champions, in AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, respecitively. Despite this, neither Styles or Nakamura have had that many memorable matches during their reigns. This seems to stem from not being booked with the right people in Nakamura's case, and not being given enough time to shine with Styles.

When and if John Morrison returns to WWE, he would fit right in in either championship ranks and bring the house down with either of these two superstars, or as champion with new challengers.

#3 John Morrison in NXT

Not the same as today

John Morrison has actually been apart of NXT in the past, however it was not the same NXT we know today.

John Morrison appeared as a 'Pro' during the second 'Reality TV' version of NXT back in 2010, as mentor to rookie Eli Cottonwood. Back then, NXT was probably the worst wrestling show in the world, as it didn't focus very much on the actual wrestling and more so on silly challenges. Today, NXT is arguably the best wrestling show in the world and has been for the past seven or so years.

While NXT is mostly for WWE's newer talent, they do often send veterans back to help out or shine some new light onto their careers. Much like Cesaro back in 2013, I think Morrison could join up with the brand, where he could end up having some of the best matches of his career, whether it be a loss or victory.

This was exactly what happened to Cesaro, although he wouldn't have the best singles run upon his return to the main roster. With how WWE has changed since, Morrson would stand a better chance. And just think of the incredible matches he could have with the like of Adam Cole, Finn Balor, Johnny Gargano and more.

#2 Reunion With The Miz

WWE's only good tag team for a time

The WWE tag team division was in dire straits back in 2007. While WWE did have some entertaining teams like Paul London and Brian Kendrick, most teams were just superstars thrown together when WWE realized they didn't have any. And this actually was the case for The Miz and John Morrison, except they made it work.

Although adversaries at first, Miz and Morrison were forced to team together on an episode of SmackDown in November 2007 for a Tag Team title match with Matt Hardy and MVP, and would come out on top. This would be the beginning of a tremendous near two year run. Although most of their Tag title matches during their run were against random thrown together teams like like Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang, and Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney, they still made the best of it.

They would also hold the WWE World Tag team Championship for a few months to, yielding more solid matches. The duo were also highly entertaining in their heel antics, most notably on their WWE website show 'The Dirt Sheet'. Considering The Miz hasn't been up to anything since his feud with Shane McMahon ended in the early summer and that they were such a great team before, I think they both and WWE could benefit from a reunion.

The WWE tag team division isn't exactly at its best today, and could use an established and solid team like The Miz and John Morrison to give it that big boost that it really needs.

#1 WWE Championship/Universal Championship Ranks

Not too late

Just about a year before Morrison decided to leave WWE, the biggest push of his career began. He defeated Sheamus in a Ladder match to become the number one contender to the WWE Championship at the 2010 TLC event, and although he would lose his title match on RAW to former partner The Miz, he still put in a fantastic performance.

A few months down the line, he, along with John Cena, would challenge The Miz again for the WWE Championship in the main event of the 2011 WWE Extreme Rules event. Although it was another loss, Morrison would give the best performance in the match. Morrison has always given main event caliber performances and when he departed WWE, he continued to prove how much of a big player he can be with many more great performances and big title wins in Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling.

Today, John Morrison recently celebrated his 40th birthday. We are long past the day where that would have been considered too old to be WWE Champion. Morrison is at the right age and physical peak to be on that main event level in WWE and even become the WWE or Universal Champion. For this to ever happen, the time is right and the time is now.
