Austin Aries title reign has been the focus for much of 2018

4 ways Impact Wrestling has surpassed the WWE

To put it simply, Impact Wrestling has had a phenomenal 2018. The company finally left Orlando and has continued to build its wrestling network. Impact has also successfully replaced departing wrestlers with new stars, who have actually outperformed their predecessors. The biggest accomplishment, however, has been the company's ability to deliver a fantastic show on a weekly basis.

In terms of revenue and popularity, Impact remains the distant number two in the wrestling business, but this doesn't mean that the WWE has a better TV product. Here are four areas where Impact is currently outperforming the WWE on a weekly basis.

#1 Tag Team Division

Less than 18 months ago, defending tag team champions Matt and Jeff Hardy had to visit other promotions due to Impact having no tag team division. Flash forward to late 2018 and the company has developed the best tag division in wrestling.

The division combines unique storytelling with speciality pairings such as LAX, Lucha Bros and The OGz. Now the tag titles feel like they actually mean something, and they only take a back seat in terms of importance to the Impact World Championship.

In comparison, WWE's current division often compromises two wrestlers being paired together because the creative team does not know what to do with them. This method has delivered a few excellent teams, however many pairings have no logic behind them, and this only hurts the division in the long term.

The credibility of the tag titles in the WWE is at an all time low, and the company would be wise to follow Impact's blueprint for a successful tag division.

#2 Promos

With Eli Drake, Austin Aries, Konnan and sometimes Scott Steiner, Impact is ahead of the WWE in this area

Impact Wrestling has always offered the better promos, but the gap is now more apparent than ever. The heavily scripted WWE promos even hinder the best speakers such as The Miz and Alexa Bliss.

Meanwhile over in Impact, Konnan continues to entertain by saying whatever he wants, Scott Steiner is the best in the business, and Austin Aries continues to be phenomenal on the mic during his title run.

The freedom handed to wrestlers in Impact, results in promos feeling natural and believable, unlike the promos found on Raw or SmackDown.

#3 Focused Content

The retirement of the Impact Grand Championship was a wise decision

The recent reduction in championships has helped Impact to create a much more focused show. No longer is twenty minutes of the show filled up with the Impact Grand Championship, a title that never really clicked with fans. The time gained from retiring the belt has been better used by building deeper storylines and putting more focus on the other belts that Impact has to offer.

Impact's two-hour runtime also allows the company to deliver focused and relevant programming on a weekly basis. The only filler content is the TNA flashback of the week, and these clips normally last no longer than 10 minutes.

The end result is that Impact shows are not incredibly tedious to watch like Raw, as viewers do not have to sit through nearly an hour of filler content, in addition to ads for programmes such as Total Divas.

#4 Entertainment

Impact continues to put a lot of focus on in-ring action, however, the company has also upped the number of entertaining segments over the last 12 months. Eli Drake remains gold on the microphone, and even when he is not doing much, his appearances are often the highlight of the show.

Joe Hendry recently entered the promotion, and he has immediately engaged in an entertaining story-line with Grado. Then, of course, we have KM and Fallah Bahh, who thanks to great creative direction, have become two of the most over stars in the company.

Impact has found the perfect balance between in-ring action and entertainment, which has resulted in a much more enjoyable show for the viewer. Hopefully, the company will soon find a new TV network that will bring their outstanding product to a larger audience.
