5 biggest reasons R-Truth is WWE's most popular champion

It has been over a month since WWE came up with the 24/7 Title. The championship belt was unveiled on an episode of Monday Night Raw by WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, to a terrible response from the live crowd. The title immediately began garnering hate from the WWE Universe on social media, for its bland design.

After a successful stint in Impact Wrestling, Truth signed a contract with WWE in 2008. Ever since then, he had been dangling in the company's mid-card, barring a few exceptions like his WWE Title feud with John Cena and his heel tandem with The Miz. Most of Truth's WWE run has seen him do comedy segments on TV. The Little Jimmy gimmick wasn't something to brag about, but he turned it into one of the most hilarious acts in professional wrestling.

Truth has done the same with the 24/7 Title, and one look at his weekly misadventures gives a clear idea as to why he has gotten incredibly popular.

#4 Other storylines are simply not doing it for the fans

It is what it is. There's no going around it. Although WWE Stomping Grounds turned out to be a good PPV, the initial fan response for the show was terrible. The reason? The three main events of the show were matches that the WWE Universe had already seen. Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin had collided in Saudi Arabia, and so had Kofi and Ziggler. Becky Lynch had already defeated Lacey Evans, but was still fighting her.

With all these major title feuds not being interesting enough for the fans, they were bound to turn to Truth and the 24/7 Title, which is without a shadow of a doubt, the hottest thing going on in WWE at the moment. The other angles will eventually gather steam once WWE moves on from the likes of Corbin and Evans, who aren't exactly lighting the wrestling world on fire.

A confused Truth

A case can certainly be made for R-Truth as being the funniest Superstar in the history of this business. Truth took the gimmick of Little Jimmy and ran with it. It led to him occasionally getting confused with respect to his direction in WWE, and resulted in hilarious situations involving himself and other WWE Superstars.

Truth once came out on Raw and cut a promo on the Money in the Bank match. The problem? He wasn't even in said match. The arena erupted in laughter over Truth's confusion, and so did Roman Reigns and Dolph Ziggler. Truth once mistook the Royal Rumble match for the MITB match, and his surprised reaction on not finding a briefcase at the top still cracks fans up. Truth is up there with the likes of Eddie Guerrero and The Rock when it comes to leaving the crowd in a fit of laughter.

One of the few things that has been a constant in wrestling is that the fans will always cheer for an underdog who has been held back throughout his career, even though he makes the audience care. It has happened with the likes of Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, and Becky Lynch in the past.

Truth has been with WWE for more than a decade at this point. Over the course of his WWE run, he has never won a major title and was a jobber to the stars for the majority of his time in the company. All of a sudden, Truth got hot with the 24/7 Title and the angle became an instant hit on WWE's Youtube channel and other social media handles. An underappreciated Superstar like Truth suddenly getting a shot at championship glory was bound to make the fans get behind him like never before.

Truth has lost and won back the title on several occasions, in the strangest of places, like an airport, a golf course, and a wedding hall! The fact that Truth's videos have beaten those of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins is a testament to the fact that the WWE Universe is loving every bit of his run with the 24/7 Title, and have zero issues seeing him on TV on a regular basis.
