Melina would be a welcome addition to the WWE Women's Division

5 Facts you need to know about WWE star Melina

Melina Perez defined women's wrestling in WWE for a number of years after Trish Stratus and Lita retired from the company back in 2006. Melina and Mickie James stepped into an epic feud that went on to be the biggest feud in the women's division throughout that year.

Melina was known for her flexibility and the fact that she was able to adapt this to her in-ring arsenal. As a former three-time Women's and two-time Divas Champion she was also known for her ring entrance, something which she adapted when she went solo after acting as a manager for both MNM and then John Morrison from her debut in 2005.

Melina was fired from WWE back in 2011 but the former five-time champion has reportedly agreed to terms with WWE for her return to the ring. Here are five facts every fan needs to know about Melina.

Melina was one of the biggest female stars in WWE at a time when the division was going through some huge changes. Melina was able to step up and become a five-time champion during her time in WWE, and even made history when she won the Divas Championship for a second time back at SummerSlam in 2010.

Melina became the first-ever female Superstar to have multiple reigns with two different championships, since at the time she was a three-time Women's Champion and a two-time Divas Champion.

The Women's Championship was later retired and the Divas Championship became the main championship for the women until The Women's Revolution when the Diva's belt was swapped for the WWE Women's Championship.

A return for Melina and a championship win for the former star upon her return would allow her to make even more history. She could become the first woman to hold the Women's, Divas, and new Women's Championships.

#4. Melina was once in a long-term relationship with John Morrison

There are many current and former WWE stars who were once in a relationship and have since been able to continue working together. Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy are one of the best examples, but Melina and John Morrison will be added to this list when the former Women's Champion officially makes her return.

Melina and John Morrison worked together on WWE TV from the moment she made her debut in 2005 until the two stars went their separate ways. When Melina and Morrison broke up back in 2015, it was revealed that the couple had dated on and off for 11 years.

Morrison has since gone on the marry Taya Valkyrie, who he worked closely with in Lucha Underground and on IMPACT Wrestling. Melina hasn't since moved on to any notable relationships at the time of writing.

It will be interesting to see how John Morrison and Melina interact if they are put on the same brand when the former Women's Champion returns.

#3. Melina once auditioned for Tough Enough

Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose have come through Tough Enough to be part of WWE, and the same could be said for Melina. The former Women's Champion auditioned for Tough Enough back in 2002 and was able to make it through to the final 21 before being eliminated in the first episode.

Of course, this didn't stop Melina from going on to pursue her dream of becoming a female wrestler, since Al Snow encouraged her to continue training and she later appeared at OVW back in 2004.

Melina was then able to climb through the ranks in what was WWE's developmental brand at that time and made her debut on WWE TV the following year as the manager of MNM.

Much like Zelina Vega, who has been seen alongside Andrade, Melina was able to guide MNM to a number of Tag Team Championships before John Morrison went solo and Melina became his manager alone.

When the two stars went their separate ways, Melina was prepared to make an impact in the women's division.

#2. Melina was kicked out of the WWE locker room

Melina's on-screen character throughout her time in WWE was that of an overconfident, egotistical character and it appears that this could have spilled over to her real life as well.

Melina was arguably one of the best female wrestlers in WWE for a very long time, but before Melina was able to prove this, she was kicked out of the WWE locker room by WWE Hall of Famer Lita.

This is completely out of character for Lita, who is usually laid back about everything in the locker room, but reports suggest that Melina had crossed the line. The whole incident was taken to wrestlers court and ended with Melina in tears.

It's unknown how long the former Women's Champion was forced to dress in the hallway, but it was one way for the women's division to teach her not to allow her ego to come into the backstage area.

At present, there is only one female wrestler left in the locker room from the time when Melina and Lita were there, Mickie James. The two women had a number of feuds over the years and could be set to clash once again if given the chance.

#1. Melina has been wrestling for more than two decades

WWE talks about Natalya and Tamina as veterans in WWE since the two women have been part of the company for more than a decade. But when Melina makes her return to the company she will be the most experienced woman on the roster.

Melina began her training at the Jesse Hernandez's School of Hard Knocks back in 2000 before making her debut the following year. Melina then auditioned for Tough Enough in 2002 and signed a developmental deal with the company in 2004.

This means that Melina has been wrestling for more than two decades. During the past nine years whilst she's been away from WWE, Melina has been part of a number of different companies including Lucha Underground and NWA's YouTube show, Powerrr.

The former star even appeared on WWE TV for the first time in eight years back in the summer of 2019 as part of The Raw Reunion show, when she helped Candice Michelle to become 24/7 Champion by acting as the referee.
