5 forgotten WWE tag teams who are still officially assigned to the main roster

There has been a lot of discussion amongst WWE fans about the state of the Raw and SmackDown Live tag divisions following the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up.

On Raw, two tag team storylines are currently developing, with The Usos humiliating The Revival on a weekly basis and main-roster newcomers The Viking Raiders on course to challenge Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins for the Raw Tag Team titles.

Over on SmackDown Live, meanwhile, the men's tag division has been decimated after The Club and The Usos moved to Raw and SAnitY, Aleister Black & Ricochet and The Bar were split up during the Shake-Up, meaning WWE had to create a new tag team – Daniel Bryan & Rowan – to win the vacant SmackDown Tag Team titles this week.

Despite both brands having questionable tag storylines right now, there are still over a dozen tag teams in the men’s divisions across Raw and SmackDown Live, while there are even more if you take into account the new women’s tag division.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at five forgotten tag teams who are still assigned to the main roster according to WWE.com.

#5. The Colons

This is no criticism of The Colons, but even the most die-hard of WWE fans would be forgiven for forgetting that Primo and Epico are still signed to the company.

From 2012-2015, the villainous duo competed in 30+ matches per year in televised matches, but they have hardly appeared on WWE programming since they were drafted to SmackDown Live in the 2016 WWE Draft.

WWE has spent much of the last three years focusing on three tag teams – The New Day, The Usos and The Bar – while other duos including The Club, The Revival, American Alpha, Enzo Amore & Big Cass, The Hardy Boyz and Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose were also given the spotlight at various stages.

The Colons, however, have been forced to wait for their chance when it comes to being featured in storylines, while both men have also had injuries over the last two years, with Primo undergoing knee surgery in 2017 and Epico undergoing shoulder surgery in 2018.

Given that SmackDown Live is short of tag teams right now, perhaps they will get their opportunity soon.

#4. The Fashion Police

It is easy to forget that Fandango & Tyler Breeze were involved in some of the most entertaining segments on WWE television during their time on SmackDown Live in 2017.

Their backstage skits, aka ‘The Fashion Files’, were often the best part of the blue brand’s programming. However, the duo’s success outside the ring did not transition inside the ring, where they continued to lose matches on SmackDown before moving to Raw in the 2018 Superstar Shake-Up.

Sadly for the comedy duo, Fandango was forced to undergo surgery on his shoulder in July 2018, ruling him out of in-ring action for the rest of the year. He has been training at the Performance Center in recent months but he is yet to return to television.

When he does come back, it will be interesting to see whether ‘Dango picks up where he left off with his tag partner, or whether we could see both men go their separate ways as singles competitors on the Raw roster.

#3. Heath Slater & Rhyno

The unlikely duo of Heath Slater & Rhyno formed a tag team following the 2016 WWE Draft.

Not only were they able to surprisingly co-exist as partners, but they went on to defeat The Usos at the Backlash pay-per-view to become the first holders of the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

Despite their early success, the two men have hardly featured on Raw over the last year, with their only notable appearances coming in December 2018 when Rhyno was ‘fired’ after losing a match against his tag partner.

It was revealed this week that Rhyno has rejected a new deal with WWE and he will leave the company when his contract expires in July 2019, so it remains to be seen if WWE will pair Slater & Rhyno up on television again before the ECW legend departs.

If they do, it will likely be to write him off television and confirm Slater’s status as a singles competitor moving forward.

#2. Two-thirds of The Riott Squad

One of the most surprising decisions in the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up came when Liv Morgan was traded to SmackDown Live, leaving Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan as the last remaining members of The Riott Squad on Raw.

Since the roster changes, Riott has appeared in one match on Main Event, losing to Dana Brooke, but we have not seen anything from Logan or Morgan on their respective brands.

While SmackDown Live has plenty of prominent female tag teams right now, including Asuka & Kairi Sane and Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, the Raw women's tag division has been decimated in recent weeks due to Nia Jax’s injury and Sasha Banks & Bayley’s split.

Only time will tell if Riott & Logan are still together, but it would not be at all surprising if they were to become one of the few female duos who compete on the red brand.

#1. The Ascension

It looked as though the future could be bright for The Ascension when Konnor surprisingly picked up one-on-one victories over Chad Gable and Bobby Roode in September 2018.

Since then, however, the former NXT Tag Team champions have mostly been used as perennial losers on Main Event, frequently suffering defeats at the hands of Heavy Machinery, while they have only competed in two brief matches on Raw in 2019 so far.

A move back to SmackDown Live in the Superstar Shake-Up would likely have benefited the duo, but they now have to battle it out with the likes of The Viking Raiders, Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins, The Revival, The Usos, Lucha House Party and The Club for television time on Raw.

Needless to say, except for the die-hard WWE viewers who watch Main Event, the majority of fans are unlikely to witness much from Konnor & Viktor in 2019. Unless, of course, they do the one thing that they have not done for many years: return to NXT.
