According to The No Holds Barred Podcast this week, Brock Lesnar had a meeting with Vince McMahon to discuss the possibility of him working for UFC and WWE simultaneously. While it's not known what McMahon's thoughts were regarding the request, fans have right to be worried if WWE does decide to do something like this.

Interestingly enough, Lesnar also allegedly discussed the idea of him holding The Universal Title and UFC title simultaneously, which would be the first time in history that a superstar has achieved that goal. While that might seem like a feel-good story and great for Brock Lesnar, it also comes with a price that WWE might not be able to pay.

#5 Keeps him in the main event scene

Let's be honest here.

Brock Lesnar is pretty much only in WWE for the money and he's not going to stick around if he isn't getting main event money and the main event spot. Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, that means WWE will be forced to either keep the title on Lesnar or have Lesnar chasing the title, which is a huge injustice for stars that have been waiting in the wings.

Of course, Lesnar doesn't always have to have a main event slot, but its believed that part of the discussion was holding The Universal Title and UFC title simultaneously. Not only is that a bad idea for reasons that will be discussed later, it also keeps Lesnar in the main event, which is not what WWE needs right now.

Screw the legitimacy argue that will again be discussed later, WWE needs to move forward and cristen either Roman Reigns, Bruan Strowman or Kevin Owens as the their next top guy. In fact, the longer they keep the title on Lesnar, the more WWE actively chooses whats great for their image versus whats great for their fans.

#4 Too much money

Brock Lesnar is only going to show up if the money is right!
Ad

Another problem with Brock Lesnar staying in WWE is the ungodly amount of money it will require to keep him there, which seems to become more and more all the time. In fact, Lesnar's last deal was said to be around 2.5 million dollars and that was only for a handful of appearances at pay per views and select episodes of Raw.

The biggest issue with this is that it will allow for Lesnar to demand top dollar in order to hold both The Universal and UFC title, which McMahon will gladly pay for relevancy reasons. Think about it! What would make The Universal title and WWE more relevant then for Lesnar to hold that title and The UFC title at the same time!

#3 Holding back other talent.

What chance does Finn Balor have at The Universal title with Brock Lesnar holding it?

It's no secret that WWE officials had dollar signs in their collective eyes when they decided to make Brock Lesnar Universal Champion at WrestleMania 34, but those dollar signs came at the expense of many of the top superstars on The Raw roster. In fact, they all seemed to succumb to The Beast Incarnate in battle and some didn't even get the chance to try.

Think about it! Did Finn Balor ever get a shot at Brock Lesnar? No! He came close to getting a match with Lesnar, but WWE scrapped the idea time after time. With that in mind, what makes people think that won't be what happens moving forward! Furthermore, how many WWE talents are WWE exactly willing to sacrifice in the name of relevancy?

Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and countless others are going to be considered not in Lesnar's league and not get Universal title matches against him. It happened before and it will definitely happen again if Vince McMahon continues on with this archaic mindset of The WWE needing Brock Lesnar.

#2 Ruin Roman Reigns' progress

Brock Lesnar signing a new deal with WWE is bad news for Roman Reigns.
Ad

WWE has worked very hard to try to get Roman Reigns over with the fans and while it seems to be working now after a drastic change in booking, Brock Lesnar signing a new contract with WWE might put that in jeopardy. In fact, with how Lesnar has negotiated with The WWE in the past, it seems obvious that him coming out of Summerslam with the title will be requested.

After all, Lesnar's ultimate goal is to win both The Universal and UFC title and what better way to start that off then to retain his title at Summerslam. Not only does it give Lesnar momentum heading into his first UFC fight in several years against Daniel Cormier, it also keeps WWE relevant, which Vince McMahon loves!

Unfortunately for Roman Reigns, WWE and the fans, this single decision has the possibility of ruining all the progress that WWE made with Roman Reigns and that's a terrible thing. In the end, WWE has worked very in trying to make Reigns their next top guy and it would horrible if they pumped the brakes on that in favour of a part-timer.

#1 Not good publicity

Would The Universal title lose all credibility in this case?
Ad

Believe it or not, Brock Lesnar holding The Universal Title and UFC title simultaneously is the worst thing WWE could do. Not only is that evident by the fact that the big red belt will always be known as the joke belt with the mainstream media, but also by how Lesnar will continue to treat the belt like crap.

If nothing else, the last thing WWE needs right now is another part-time champion. Sure, it might sound like a good idea, especially after seeing Ronda Rousey's first Raw match covered by ESPN,but this would be at the expense of the company that he is trying to get fans interested in.

Consider the fact that mainstream sports fans don't have a positive opinion of pro wrestling and that Lesnar's united championship run would become a staple at ESPN and you see the problem with doing something like that. Vince needs to understand the interest just isn't there, but he also needs to understand that his title will only lose legitimacy

In the end, ESPN fans already complain whenever WWE is discussed on the Facebook page and this is only going to continue if Lesnar signs a new deal with the company. Furthermore, if Vince McMahon thinks that having both titles on Lesnar is a good thing, he could be making a decision that sets the company back several decades.
