5 reasons why King Corbin vs The Fiend for the Universal Championship is not a terrible idea

At the WWE Royal Rumble later this month, Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt will lock horns once again over the Universal Championship. Given how The Fiend has sort of been all the rage round these parts lately, I for one feel it is safe to assume (and maybe even bet a dollar or two if you're one of those guys) that he walks away from the Rumble with the title still with him.

After the Rumble, we have the Elimination Chamber PPV. If they aren't going to chuck in the Fiend with a bunch of dudes in the Chamber and let him destroy everyone, then perhaps a fresh match up would be a good idea. Perhaps even against a certain King Corbin?

While it is almost certain that many of you recoiled at that sentence, it is not as terrible as you may think (unless you think it's a great idea, which it is). Here are a few reasons why King Corbin vs Bray Wyatt could be great.

#5 Physical styles

Something that both King Corbin and Bray Wyatt have in common is that they are both wrestlers with a hard-hitting and physical move-set. Think of their signature moves - Corbin has the Deep Six, the Chokeslam Backbreaker, and the End of Days. Wyatt has the Uranage and the Sister Abigail.

Another thing is that both of these dudes are big men, but they are surprisingly agile and quick for their size. It's amazing how Corbin can pull off that baseball slide into the corner.

Men with similar styles could gel well together and put on a great match. People don't normally think of either star when they think of great matches, but that doesn't mean they don't have any.

If these two are allowed to have an actual match (as opposed to the Fiend's usual debacles with no selling everything), then it could be something special.

#4 King Corbin can sell fear

King Corbin can be scared

King Corbin is supposed to be a tough guy, but we all know that when it comes down to it, he's not as brave as he likes to think he is. His character is a bully who only picks fights he thinks he can win. The only reason he's been winning against Roman Reigns is because he's got a small army's worth of backup.

It would not be character assassination for Corbin to be afraid of the Fiend. After all, this was the man who was so afraid of the Demon that he lost in a minute at SummerSlam. Due to the nature of his character, it would make sense for Corbin to talk a big game but then be deathly afraid of Bray Wyatt.

It doesn't make sense for your top guy to cry in the corner at the sight of a scary guy. While he probably wouldn't cry, Corbin could show he is terrified of the Fiend, which will add to his aura. Watching Corbin look on in horror as Wyatt casually annihilates several nameless security guards could be fun. Heck, throw in Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler into that mess as well.

#3 Good filler feud

King Corbin

Like it or not, Baron Corbin is one of SmackDown's top stars right now. He's easily in the top 10 in terms of kayfabe credibility, and maybe even in the top 5. After all, he is in the main event.

If they aren't going to put the Universal Championship in the Elimination Chamber this year (which would be a shame; it has never been defended in the Chamber), then who can face Bray Wyatt?

Names like Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns can be tossed around, and each is feasible. However, it seems Strowman is on a collision course with the Intercontinental Championship. For Reigns, it feels like he's bound for WrestleMania.

There's the returning Sheamus, and while that would probably be a great match, The Celtic Warrior just came back from a hiatus, so maybe he needs to pick up a few wins.

Corbin is credible, and he can lose and not be too badly affected. Corbin can talk a lot of trash and lose because that's the kind of person he is. He can lose decisively to the Fiend and still bounce back and be a pain in the upper to mid-card. He's got that kind of role.

#2 WWE can explore new areas with The Fiend

The Fiend

Right now The Fiend is a real bad guy who bullies all these people with his mind games and whatnot. He terrorizes all these good guys because he wants to unhinge them and unleash their dark sides, it seems.

But put him up against a man like King Corbin, and it's something new. Corbin is not the kind of person the Fiend usually targets. There's arguably no good in Corbin's soul whatsoever. How will Bray Wyatt deal with the King?

This could be a great opportunity to flesh out the Fiend a bit more. Will he respect Corbin's hustle of being a guy who takes what he wants? Or will he be extra vindictive and cruel to him?

WWE could try exploring the possibilities of a tweener Wyatt, as opposed to a strictly diabolical and evil Wyatt. Does he treat all men the same? Or does he view himself as some sort of agent of retribution?

If we had to pick between either man showing babyface tendencies, we'd probably all pick Wyatt. Good guy Corbin is something I doubt many people can or want to imagine.

#1 They can go all out with the craziness

King Corbin always brings the crazy with him

This is what I feel is the best part of a potential feud between the two men. King Corbin's matches tend to feel overbooked, especially when he brings all his lackeys to the ring. Normally people would roll their eyes at these shenanigans, but with the Fiend, it could add to the match.

Say it's a No DQ match between Bray Wyatt and Corbin for the Universal Championship, Wyatt is winning the match (because obviously). Suddenly, The Revival, Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler (heck, throw in Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro, because why not) all storm the ring. This will allow both men to fight on a somewhat level playing field.

They can portray The Fiend as vulnerable, which will get more people interested in the match. It's hard to care when one guy is practically indestructible. But giving Corbin the numbers advantage means he might win. He won't, but he might.

Plus, think of all the chaos and destruction that could happen when The Fiend lays waste to Corbin and his buddies.

Wrestling is all about chaos and unpredictability. This feud will have plenty of both.
