5 reasons why The Bar interfered in the Champion vs Champion match on RAW

On Monday Night RAW, the show opened with Seth Rollins, who was talking about his incredible win over Brock Lesnar and the consequences of it. He was interfered, not by his next rival, but an immediate challenger in Kofi Kingston, the WWE Champion.

It turned out to be a very interesting confrontation and the new WWE Champion wanted a fight right away. Looking at the main event of WrestleMania with the "Winner Takes All" stipulation that Becky Lynch won, Kofi Kingston felt inspired to do the same.

So he challenged Seth Rollins to a champion vs champion match in the main event of RAW. There was a lot of scepticism because of a possible unification, but as expected, it ended with interference - from The Bar of all people.

But the real question is as to why Sheamus and Cesaro were the ones who interfered in the match. They turned it into a tag team contest, where the champions predictably won. Here are a few theories on why The Bar interfered.

#5. A happy ending to the RAW after WrestleMania

While the crowd wasn't exactly happy that the champion vs champion match ended abruptly, the fact of the matter is that it saw a happy ending. Nobody would have really wanted to see either man lose their title and the best possible way of going about it would be to have the two champions stand tall together.

This led to a classic tag team bout where the babyfaces won. Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins even proved to have great chemistry together and though it's a one-off tag team, it certainly would be interesting to see them team up again.

Either way, that may never happen until they're on the same brand - something that will not be happening anytime soon.

#4. To set up a larger storyline involving The Bar

They don't just set the bar

Ever since losing the SmackDown Tag Team Championships to "The Best Tag Team In The World", the Bar was more or less floating around creatively. Sure, they were in a high-profile SmackDown Tag Title match, but the fact of the matter was that the match was more to get other superstars on the card.

However, with The Bar interfering, it may not have been as random as expected. We don't know whether the story would be on RAW or SmackDown, but our best guess would be in the blue brand since they only shifted there last year.

This may see The Bar get involved in a feud against either world champion or might find another superstar to form an alliance with. Either way, Cesaro and Sheamus are great and deserve to be in an active storyline. It may have major implications with regards to the world title picture.

#3. To set up a feud against The New Day

The New Day could find themselves getting busy soon

The Bar vs The New Day is almost a no-brainer at this point, especially given that they're on the same brands. As we mentioned, we definitely don't expect The Bar nor The New Day to shift brands over to RAW.

This may be the set-up for a rivalry between the two teams - something that they haven't fully been able to do. Sure, The Bar did beat The New Day for their last SmackDown Tag Title win at SmackDown 1000, but if you think about it, that really wans't as much of a storyline.

Now, it gives Xavier Woods and Big E something to do on the side while Kofi Kingston tears it up as WWE champion. Not every tag team feud needs to be for the title and it would be interesting to see a new team challenge The Usos.

#2. Neither Kofi Kingston nor Seth Rollins was going to lose anyway

It was too soon

This is just the cold hard truth, which fans may more or less have to accept at this stage. Think about it from a realistic standpoint. Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins both received major WrestleMania coronations.

While its not unheard of for these title reigns to end in a month or so, it's obvious that both of their wins were meant to represent a big change in WWE programming. Kofi Kingston made history as the first-ever African American WWE Champion, while Seth Rollins finally fulfilled his objective of bringing the Universal title back to RAW full time.

They're both the faces of their respective brands now and there was never going to be another double champion, especially after they just had one at WrestleMania. Thus, to protect both the WWE and Universal Champion, WWE decided that The Bar needed to interfere.

#1. To save their match for a later date

An inevitable meeting?

One thing that's crystal clear right now is that WWE very much intends on running back Kofi Kingston vs Seth Rollins in the future. It's a great match that can do even better than what they did on RAW and even then, it was clear that they were holding back.

The obvious time to do it would be Survivor Series, but the question is as to whether WWE will really have enough faith in both to have them hold their respective world titles until November.

It's hard to imagine, but with Seth Rollins, it's far more likely. It all depends on the numbers that Kofi Kingston is pulling as WWE Champion and if they were both to hold the title for another 7 months or so, that would be fantastic. Either way, Seth Rollins made it crystal clear that they will meet again at some point in time.
