5 reasons why the WWE gave Bray Wyatt a new gimmick

Bray Wyatt was a cult leader of the Wyatt Family. At one point of time, he was seen as a top superstar by the company, compiling huge wins over John Cena and other superstars. But over time, due to inconsistent booking, Wyatt lost his touch.

Wyatt became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion but didn't get to hold on to the title for long. After a run with the tag team titles, Wyatt was taken off screen after his partner Matt Hardy took a hiatus from WWE.

Bray Wyatt returned to WWE TV after months of speculation about his return. He came back with an odd, new gimmick which positions him as a host of the Firefly Fun House.

Considering that most fans remember him as a cult leader using supernatural elements in his character work, this new direction is definitely strange, but at least he gets to be on TV.

#5 Bray Wyatt's previous gimmick had run its course

Bray Wyatt was at his peak during the days of Wyatt Family. As a cult leader, he was creepy yet eccentric. His promos were so crisp and engaging that everyone watched him with eagerness.

After the fall of the Wyatt Family, Bray went solo and that is where he began to downgrade. His cryptic promos didn't have their former cleverness and imagination.

He began suffering regular loses, and a bizarre program against the Demon King Finn Balor brought his stocks down. An illness came as a blessing in disguise, which saved him from continuing the feud.

Eventually, Matt Hardy would help breathe new life into his career, introducing Wyatt to the Woken universe, altering his gimmick and transitioning him into a fan favorite for the first time in his career. The trend of his career has proven that the cult leader heel gimmick had run out of steam and it would do Wyatt no favors to continue down that rabbit hole.

#4 To present him as a babyface

Bray Wyatt was a face before Matt Hardy took a break from wrestling. They were the RAW tag team champions but were forced to drop the title due to Hardy's physical condition.

Wyatt was presented as a face only because he was in a tag team with the Woken Matt Hardy. The character of Bray was always viewed as a villain who got more and more ineffective over time.

Bray shed his old cult leader persona to become a babyface. This might change the perception of his character, and help him establish a connection with the WWE Universe.

#3 To cut any ties with Matt Hardy

Bray Wyatt was last seen as Matt Hardy's ally. Since then, Matt Hardy has returned and reformed The Hardy Boys, going on to win the SmackDown tag titles. Also, Matt is now using all his gimmicks at the same time which makes it difficult for Bray to comply.

Bray made his return on the RAW brand, giving him the chance to carve a separate path. By giving him a different gimmick, WWE wants to cut down all the ties between him and Matt Hardy. Now, Bray Wyatt is a family-friendly superstar, who is intended to target the younger demographic of the WWE Universe.

#2 To give him a fresh start

Bray Wyatt's career has been full of ups and downs. He has been in the main event spot with the spotlight on him, and also been left out of the entire card.

From a cult leader fighting with his stable, going solo and having a sub-par run with the world title, to an inconsistent tag-team performer, Wyatt has not shown consistency in his former gimmick.

To get started with a fresh new gimmick could do wonders for a superstar. The Rock and Steve Austin won't have reached the heights if they would have continued with their original gimmicks.

As ridiculous as it may seem for Bray Wyatt to be in such an avatar, we need to give the gimmick some time to grow. This could mark a watershed moment in Wyatt's career, setting him up to be taken seriously by the masses for the first time in a long time.

#1 Maybe It's all a ruse

Bray Wyatt has claimed that he has left his evil ways behind him, and will be the host of his own TV PG show. Even the vignettes of his scary dolls have turned out to be friendly.

Although, there might be something more than what meets the eyes. One can sense the sinister intentions inside Bray Wyatt's head when he mellows down his own portrait.

There's a chance that he might play a slightly inspired character of Doink the clown using his dolls, or he might get a full-blown heel character in the coming weeks.

WWE might try something new and might give him a split personality gimmick in which he would be balancing his old and new gimmicks.
