5 reasons why WWE superstars jumping to AEW so early will be a mistake

WWE has been the monopoly when it comes to professional wrestling ever since the demise of WCW. Even though promotions like Impact, ROH & NJPW tried to be the next alternative, they couldn't live up to the largest wrestling promotion in the world.

The company's history and worldwide fame made it impossible for the rival promotions to stand up to Vince McMahon's empire. But it doesn't mean they are invincible.

WCW was the only major wrestling promotion that gave headaches to Vince McMahon. But we all know who had the last laugh in the Monday Night Wars. Now AEW is looking to do the same by attempting to be the next big thing. Their first outing with Double or Nothing proved to be very successful.

AEW sold out all the tickets for their next PPV All Out in less than fifteen minutes, which is a huge achievement for a new wrestling promotion.

The reports of numerous WWE superstars contacting AEW are taking the internet by storm. With Jon Moxley making a successful debut with AEW, a lot of WWE superstars are looking to replicate Moxley’s success.

But jumping ship to AEW so soon might not be a wise career decision for those superstars. Continue reading to know why.

#5 It does not guarantee a big push

Jon Moxley got all the attention when he made it to Double or Nothing

If we ask all the WWE superstars why they are looking to go to AEW, the most common reason would probably be them not being satisfied with their creative direction.

Let’s look at it this way: pro wrestlers from all over the world will look to make a name for themselves by joining AEW. They'll have a packed roster in no time, and it will put them in WWE's boots.

WWE has a lot of talented performers on their roster, and everyone would like to be in the main event or the title pictures. But WWE can afford to have only a few in those spots.

That is the reason they have multiple brands to find a place for all of their talents. AEW will soon find themselves in this situation. With them being a start-up, the WWE superstars looking to make the jump might be in the same position they are in the WWE.

#4 AEW's focus could be on building new stars

MJF is the hottest new prospect in AEW!

WWE is known for their ability to make their talents into the globally recognized superstars we know today. So AEW will not look to have the former WWE superstars take all the most significant spots on their shows.

Instead, they will look to build up new performers to cement their place in the business. If they promote more WWE talents than their own, they would be just feeding off of Vince McMahon’s legacy rather than building their own.

With hot prospects like MJF and Hangman Page, only a few former WWE superstars will get to share the spotlight with them. The rest of them will flounder in the mid card.

So the disgruntled WWE superstars should know what they're up against before thinking of moving to the new promotion. Because there's no looking back once they make the decision, and should put a lot of thinking to it before they make a move.

#3 They might not get a chance to go back

Chris Jericho might never go back to the WWE!

The trend among the superstars leaving WWE is to lash out against their former employers in whatever opportunity they get.

We all heard what Jon Moxley had to say about WWE in Chris Jericho's podcast. Even Jericho himself once said that he is banned from the WWE and they have removed him from their annals of history.

While Jericho and Moxley can get away with what they said, it might not be the same for the other superstars. We've seen many former WWE superstars ruin their chances of going back by trash talking the company in public. Either they'll get sued or get erased from the company's history.

WWE has been offering big money contracts to their talents to prevent them from signing with AEW. While some like Mike & Maria Kanellis have decided to stay, the others leave against the company's will, which could blow their chances of going back.

#2 They may not get paid enough once their initial contracts expire

WWE gives out the best pay in the industry!

AEW is reportedly offering contracts to its performers on par with the WWE. That could either be a huge gamble or be a part of the company's customer acquisition costs.

They just struck a major TV deal, and they wouldn't have done it without the level of talent they have on their roster. They sold out their next event in fifteen minutes, and the credit for that also goes to their performers.

They needed to invest in their wrestlers before they could ever think of expanding their business. The initial contracts would get the superstars the same monetary benefits they derived from WWE.

But it's not guaranteed they'll get the same once they re-negotiate their deal. If they're not careful enough, they'll find themselves earning less than what they were getting in the WWE.

#1 AEW's long term stability is not guaranteed

Vince did it before, and he can do it again!

We've seen it in the past with TNA when it started to gain momentum in the late 2000s, but went downhill at the end. Even WWE Hall of Famers like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Mick Foley signed with TNA and tried to make it the next big thing.

AEW might’ve struck a big TV deal and be doing real numbers selling out their PPV’s, but all of that can be beginner’s luck. When the fans had only one option when it came to pro-wrestling, it's natural for AEW to catch their interest by promising to be an alternative.

But their long-term stability will be proved only after surviving a few years in the market. Until then it will be a big gamble for the WWE superstars to think of making a jump to the new promotion.
