Roman Reigns' stock has fallen over the last few months

5 Signs that Roman Reigns is no longer 'The Guy' for Vince McMahon

Roman Reigns often refers to himself as 'The Guy' on WWE television. This is a reference to being the face of the company in the present era, much like John Cena was the face of the previous era of WWE.

There have been many others, from Bruno Sammartino to Hulk Hogan, to Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock. Each of these not-so-gentle men has been the go-to guy for the McMahon family, who've built their company around them.

Roman Reigns was thought to be Vince McMahon's golden boy, despite the fact that the WWE Universe did not take to him as they took to his predecessors before him. However, this seems to be changing with the passage of time because it just seems like Roman Reigns is no longer 'the guy'.

#5 Repetitive and unexciting matches

Mind you, Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns actually battled each other at WWE WrestleMania 35 this very year.

The very fact that their feud has been stretched over so many months is indicative of the fact that WWE and Vince McMahon aren't putting enough thought into Roman Reigns' future career graph.

It's been two months since WrestleMania and we still have Reigns vs. McIntyre at Stomping Grounds.

It is all too possible that Roman Reigns is lying low before he makes a resurgence and a comeback at SummerSlam. But honestly, from what I've been seeing, he's still an upper mid-card player but no longer the face of the company.

Vince McMahon said he would listen to the fans and he's giving other people a chance for now.

Compare this to the years before. Reigns was always in prominent feuds and there always seemed to be a plan for The Big Dog.

#4 Not in the title picture

The fact that Vince McMahon is finally listening to the fans should be clear from the fact that both of the current male champions are individuals that the WWE Universe has been gunning for.

Kofi Kingston's eleven-year-long journey in WWE culminated in him becoming the WWE Champion at WrestleMania 35 this year. Seth Rollins had been the most popular babyface for far too long, and the WWE Universe wanted a full-time Universal Champion for way long!

Roman Reigns is not in the title picture on either show at the moment. The very fact that both of the current Champions are babyfaces also indicates that he won't be in the title picture for a while now. You can always do a friendly-rivalry angle but I still think that he'll be out of the title picture for a while now.

This is a clear indication that he's no longer 'The Guy' for McMahon.

#3 His matches are much lower down the card these days

Roman Reigns took on Shane McMahon at Super ShowDown at what was the culmination of a long-term rivalry that began with Reigns attacking Shane's father, Vince McMahon, after being drafted to SmackDown. However, even an important match like this was in the middle of the card.

The Battle Royal and the Goldberg vs. Undertaker matches were clearly the two main contests at Super ShowDown. Sometimes, an important match even kicks off the proceedings, much like the Universal Championship match did.

To be the third match on the main card pretty much indicates that it's a throwaway match to get the crowd warmed up for the action that follows. There's no way that his match with Drew McIntyre at Stomping Grounds will be the main event of the pay-per-view either.

Reigns is still a major player but not the main player.

#2 Did not main event WrestleMania

Roman Reigns had been in the main event of WrestleMania every year since WrestleMania 31. He took on Brock Lesnar that year, Triple H in the year that followed, The Undertaker the following year and finally, Brock Lesnar again at WrestleMania 34. One believed that it was a given that he would be the main event of WrestleMania year after year.

And then Becky Lynch caught fire and just became the most popular WWE Superstar in the company. Charlotte Flair stepped up to the plate as well and it was impossible to deny that Ronda Rousey was bringing a lot more mainstream attention to the company. Which meant that for the first time in history, the women would be in the main event of a WrestleMania.

This is a clear indication that Reigns' stock has fallen. He battled Drew McIntyre slightly lower down the card.

#1 First loss on pay-per-view in a year

It is a rare sight indeed to see Roman Reigns lose a match that he's in. It's even rarer to see him lose a match on pay-per-view, as he's one of the most protected individuals in the roster right now and this has been the case from the very start.

But then, the very fact that he lost his first match on pay-per-view in nearly a year at WWE Super ShowDown is indicative of his stock plummeting significantly. And the fact that he lost to someone like Shane McMahon, who doesn't even wrestle regularly, is a further indication of this fact.

By no means do I mean that Roman Reigns will no longer be a featured player on WWE television anymore. I mean that he won't be the be-all, end-all of WWE television like he used to be.
