5 Superstars who could dethrone Bobby Lashley as the Intercontinental Champion

On January 7th 2019, we saw Bobby Lashley become the Intercontinental Champion for the first time in his career during an episode of Raw after he had successfully defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat match. This is the first time that Lashley has held gold in the WWE since 2007.

Due to the nature of Lashley's character, it seems likely that he will hold his title for a very long time. But nevertheless, any Superstar that defeats The All Mighty for the Intercontinental Championship will receive a huge push and it will be very beneficial.

Here, we will have a look at five potential Superstars who can dethrone Lashley to become the new Intercontinental Champion.

#5 Finn Balor

Over the last few weeks on Raw, we have seen Lashley take advantage of Finn Balor by brutally assaulting the leader of Balor Club.

This is because Lashley was originally set to be engaged in a rivalry with Seth Rollins following Rollins' Royal Rumble 2019 victory, but due to the injury that Rollins has suffered, Balor has proven to be the effective replacement for him.

Balor has stated that he wants to be the superstar to take the Intercontinental Championship away from Lashley, and he could prove to be a threat due to the fact that he took Brock Lesnar to his limits at Royal Rumble 2019 with the WWE Championship on the line.

There is no denying that Balor taking on Lashley would be a very believable match. Balor has been on a quest for championship gold ever since he was forced to relinquish his WWE Universal Championship due to an injury.

Balor would make a good option to defeat Lashley for the Intercontinental Championship so that he can finally win a title in the WWE since 2016.

#4 Dolph Ziggler

The Show-Off could be the one to dethrone Lashley

Another decent option to take the Intercontinental Championship away from Bobby Lashley would be none other than The Show-Off. This is because Ziggler has recently suggested a change of character, as there is potential that he may lead a new stable of misfits in WWE.

The Show-Off is already a former six-time Intercontinental Champion, and it seems highly unlikely that he will ever hold a world title in the WWE again due to the rising stars that are emerging on the scene such as Drew McIntyre.

With Ziggler currently being a babyface following his split with McIntyre, this provides a great opportunity for him to take Lashley's championship away from him to make not just himself look more credible, but Ziggler's potential stable as well.

There is no better way to book a faction than to start them off looking very strong, as we've previously seen before with The Shield which makes Ziggler a viable option to defeat Lashley for the title.

#3 Braun Strowman

The IC title could be the launchpad for Strowman back into the main event scene

Despite the fact that The Monster Among Men is tailor-made for the main event scene, it doesn't seem as if he will have an opportunity to earn a world title shot anytime soon. This is due to the fact that Seth Rollins is scheduled to go one on one with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 35.

Strowman is an example of a Superstar that WWE should've struck whilst the iron was hot, as he should've won the world title a lot sooner.

At Royal Rumble 2019, Strowman was set to face Lesnar for the WWE Championship, but he was removed from the match as he wasn't 100% recovered from his injury at the time.

This was a good decision because if Strowman did face Lesnar, he would have made his elbow injury a lot worse.

However, he does make a great option to defeat Bobby Lashley for the Intercontinental Championship in the future. This is so that Strowman can continue to build his character and aura back up again.

A battle between two of the strongest competitors in the WWE would be amazing to see, and seeing Strowman in the mid-card would be a good way to go whilst Rollins burns it down in the main event scene.

#2 Sami Zayn

It could create a solid storyline in which the fans could get behind Zayn again, as The Underdog is yet to hold a title on the main roster

The Underdog from the Underground was playing the role of a heel before he suffered an injury which led to him being on the sidelines.

Zayn could return as a babyface, as he could talk about how Lashley was the reason why he was on the sidelines for so long.

It could create a solid storyline in which the fans could get behind Zayn again, as The Underdog is yet to hold a title on the main roster.

But due to Zayn being a babyface for the majority of his career, he wouldn't have a problem in getting the fans back on his side.

There is no doubt that the WWE Universe would begin to root for Zayn again, and seeing The Underdog defeat Lashley for the title could be the epitome of David conquering Goliath.

#1 Kevin Owens

Owens would be the perfect candidate to defeat Lashley, as it gives him a meaningful storyline for his return

And finally, at number one on the list, we have none other than Kevin Owens. Owens' situation is similar to Sami Zayn's as the two men were partners.

However, Owens was written off on television after a double turn in which we saw Bobby Lashley brutally attack the Prize Fighter.

Even though Owens was injured before that, the attack from Lashley gave the fans a reason why he would be out of action.

However, it has been rumoured for a long time that Owens will make his return to WWE. There has even been a vignette to hype up his return, but we haven't seen any more of those segments in the past few weeks.

This makes it possible that WWE may be hyping up a surprise return for Owens, in which he targets the man that had caused his injury in the storyline.

Owens would be the perfect candidate to defeat Lashley, as it gives him a meaningful storyline for his return.

Due to the fact that Owens has been a heel in the WWE for the majority of his career, a revenge-fuelled story is what he needs to solidify his status as a babyface superstar.
