Some Superstars are much bigger than the title itself

5 Superstars who should win the WWE Universal Championship before they retire

The WWE Universal Championship is one of the top Championships in existence in the wrestling industry today.

Named in honor of the WWE Universe, the title was unveiled on July 25, 2016, and has seen some top Superstars get hold of it and make it prestigious.

Superstars like Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and the legendary Goldberg have all held the Championship and increased its value in the process.

Since the Championship was established in the honor of the WWE Universe, one must remember certain veterans who have done a lot for the fans and deserve to win the title before they retire.

In this article, we will look at the 5 top Superstars who should win the Universal Championship at least once before they retire.

#5 Rey Mysterio

Mysterio is one of the all-time greats

The Master of the 619 is no newbie to WWE and has managed to remain a great babyface and an underdog since he first stepped into the ring.

Mysterio has helped inspire a new generation of wrestlers and is the undefeated King of the Cruiserweights.

However, his work and fan following have helped him aim high and even win the Heavyweight Championship in the company.

With that in mind, there's nothing that the little man can't do in the ring, and is deserving of every Championship the company has on offer.

Mysterio has talked about retiring a number of times recently and even teased retirement on RAW not too long ago.

Before he does retire, the company should give him one last top Championship reign, which should come in the form of the title named in the WWE Universe's honor.

Not only will the reign be special for Mysterio, but it will also be special for the fans who've always had faith in him and wanted him to succeed.

The Biggest Little Man is one of the few Superstars who really deserve a Universal Championship reign before retiring from the ring.

#4 John Cena

He may not be a regular but he deserves it

While John Cena isn't even partially as active in the ring as he used to be, he is one man who helped WWE grow more than anyone else in the business.

Cena's work in and out of the ring not only helped him become a megastar, but it also helped the company reach new audiences and territories.

While the 16-time World Champion has found unparalleled success outside the ring (and on the silver screen as well), he's always worked hard to put the company's name over.

WWE could use Cena's brand name to their advantage and give him a Universal Championship run as his final reign, holding one of the most important belts in the company before he retires for good.

This will allow him to hold a title that seems perfect for him as he's dedicated a large part of his career to the WWE Universe.

It will also help the company build more Superstars around Cena and allow some fan-favorites to defeat him for the title and step into the leader of the Cenation's shoes.

While Cena seems to be enjoying how the new stars are making their way to the top in WWE and might not want to take the title away from a deserving Superstar, we've seen a few Universal Championship reigns which have been forgettable.

#3 AJ Styles

A phenomenal title for The Phenomenal One

AJ Styles is arguably the most accomplished wrestler in the industry today and has not only made it big in WWE in a short time but also become one of the greatest ever.

Styles was the longest reigning WWE Champion not too long ago, and he proved why he's known as The Phenomenal One by having a phenomenal reign at the top.

Now that he's free from any titles at the moment, the company shouldn't waste too much time before giving him his first big Universal Championship feud.

The reason for that is that Styles has recently hinted at hanging up his boots, and the company should make use of his name and value to increase the Universal title's prestige.

Styles has helped build the roster of every single promotion he has battled on, and many newcomers can benefit from having a Universal Championship feud against The Phenomenal One.

As one of the finest performers in the ring, Styles is one of the WWE Universe's favorites and needs to win the title that's named in their honor.

The company will lose out big time if they're unable to get the belt around his waist before he retires from the ring.

#2 Daniel Bryan

Bryan has kicked down several doors during his career

There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Daniel Bryan is the most inspirational Superstar of the decade.

He has worked day and night to defy all odds and become one of the top Superstars in the industry and has also put numerous newcomers over without losing any value.

The 5-time World Champion has given fans several epic moments to remember, and he will find a special place in the WWE Hall of Fame once he's done.

One thing that hasn't really worked in Bryan's favor is the number of injuries he's suffered during his run and the toll they've taken on his body.

Nearing the age of 40, Bryan has already retired from the ring once before making a miraculous return in 2018.

With that in mind, time is ticking on Bryan's career and we aren't sure how long he'll be able to remain in the ring before calling it quits.

He is one man who should definitely win the Universal Championship once in his career just because he deserves it given all the work he's put into the ring for the WWE Universe and the service he's done to the company.

The Planet's Champion loves to battle as the underdog, and a title victory as an underdog will not only help him but also help the Universal Championship gain value.

#1 Randy Orton

Orton simply deserves the title

‘The Viper’ Randy Orton has been one of WWE’s most prominent Superstars over the past two decades. His work as a heel has brought him a lot of fame and fan following.

Unlike the other Superstars on the list, Orton has won most of his Championships as a heel, which has been a great shift away from watching those playing Superhero characters on the screen win gold.

As a 13-time World Champion, there isn’t much that Orton hasn’t done or accomplished in his career, and that has made him one of the best Superstars of his era and a future Hall of Famer who has inspired an entire generation of wrestlers.

With that in mind, the Universal Championship is the only top title that has been away from Orton’s grasp and is the one that he should win before he retires. There are some iconic wrestlers who’ve won the title already, and it’s a shame that he hasn’t made the list still.

Orton is on RAW at the moment and even though the Championship is on SmackDown, it shouldn’t be long before he goes after it and wins it at least once before calling it a day.
