A new heel team took over RAW this week

5 Things WWE RAW got right this week (July 6, 2020)

A few major segments were announced for this week’s WWE RAW before the show kicked off. Fans were excited to see Rey Mysterio and Aleister Black team up for a match against Seth Rollins and Murphy, but The Dutch Destroyer was attacked backstage, leaving Mysterio without a partner for the night.

Kairi Sane made a comeback on the night after a brief absence, however, the WWE Universe did not expect to watch The Pirate Princess compete in the ring right away. She got a match against Sasha Banks during RAW, even though The Boss didn't seem too ready for the match.

Apart from that, Drew McIntyre was confronted by his former friend and teammate Heath Slater, much to the surprise of the WWE Universe once again, while MVP and Bobby Lashley unveiled the new United States Championship belt in the absence of United States Champion Apollo Crews.

The night ended with a big Champion vs. Champion match between RAW Women’s Champion Asuka and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.

#5 Setup for the Eye for an Eye match at Extreme Rules

Kevin Owens invited Seth Rollins out for an interview on the KO Show on RAW and cleared the chairs in the ring as he expected things to take a turn for the worse. Rollins showed that he wasn’t too excited about being on the KO show and brought up the injury Owens had picked up during their match at WrestleMania 36.

KO had some tricks up his sleeve too as he presented Rollins with a shirt he wore when he defeated The Monday Night Messiah at the Show of Shows. Rollins made it clear that he was out to challenge Rey Mysterio for a match at Extreme Rules and tried to convince Owens to fight for the 'greater good'.

Mysterio came out and accepted the challenge and KO offered to be his partner for the night after Aleister Black was attacked backstage on RAW. The two babyfaces put on a good performance together and managed to defeat the heels after Black made an entrance to cause a distraction, while Dominik played his part as well by blinding Murphy.

After the match, Mysterio announced that he wanted an Eye for an Eye match at Extreme Rules, something that I’d been calling for weeks! It’ll be interesting to see how that goes down and who will wear an eyepatch for months following Extreme Rules.

#4 MVP as Apollo Crews' next challenger

MVP and Bobby Lashley arrived on this week’s WWE RAW to unveil the new United States Championship belt. MVP first spoke about the United States Champion Apollo Crews, and how disrespectful he’d been in recent weeks.

He then revealed the new belt and called it his own, stating that he would defeat Crews for it at Extreme Rules. Lashley declared MVP the new Champion and put the title around his waist before Ricochet and Cedric Alexander came out and interrupted the duo.

The babyfaces of RAW spoke a few words before we had a tag team match at hand. Lashley did most of the work during the match. He managed to hit the Spear on Ricochet to pick up the victory for his team and end the segment.

It looks like The All Mighty of RAW will have to wait for some more time

This was an interesting segment that allowed MVP to emerge as Apollo’s next challenger rather than Lashley. For weeks, fans had been seeing Lashley target Apollo and were ready to see him come after the United States Championship.

However, it seems like WWE is throwing MVP into the mix to allow Apollo another big victory before he ultimately meets the All-Mighty.

#3 The new heel team on RAW

It’s incredible that even in 2020, WWE continues to turn to Randy Orton in tough situations and he continues to deliver. Even though the company has built big stars and heels such as Bobby Lashley, Seth Rollins, and Andrade on WWE RAW, it seems like Orton is still their go-to man.

After taking out Edge and Christian, Orton seems to have Big Show on his list, and the legendary Superstar teamed up with Andrade and Angel Garza this week to take on Big Show and the Viking Raiders on RAW.

Garza was the target of the babyfaces during the match followed by Andrade who was taken out by The Viking Raiders. Garza seemed unhappy with El Idolo but Orton straightened him up and nearly choked him to get him back in the game.

The Viper was tagged in late into the match but did not take much offense and tagged out again. However, he almost took down The Giant of WWE with an RKO, but Show managed to avoid it. He later caught Erik with the RKO to allow his team to pick up the victory.

This was great work from the best heel of RAW even though the match wasn’t too good. We could probably see a match between Orton and Show at Extreme Rules and at the moment, Orton has all the momentum he needs to pick up a massive win.

#2 Kairi Sane’s return on RAW

Kairi Sane had been away from television for some time now and there have been reports suggesting that The Pirate Princess was ready to head back to Japan and compete there for a year before retiring from wrestling. However, Sane did make a return to WWE RAW this week. Sasha Banks and Bayley were out on RAW again this week to run their mouths before Asuka interrupted her Extreme Rules opponent.

The Hugger then talked her best friend into another match for the night which led to The Empress bringing out Sane.

The Pirate Princess performed really well this week and it seemed like she hadn’t missed a beat in all those weeks away from the ring. While she was closing in on a victory, Bayley’s interference caused a disqualification win for the Japanese Superstar.

Asuka and Sane will team up once again as The Kabuki Warriors to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships next week. This was a great return after we saw Asuka help Io Shirai in her match on NXT against Banks last week!

#1 Bayley and Sasha Banks continue to prove their worth

Sasha Banks wasn’t the only one who had to compete during the night, as SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley also competed against RAW Women’s Champion Asuka.

Bayley had taken on Alexa Bliss on WWE SmackDown last week, while Banks had competed on WWE NXT against Io Shirai and in a Mixed Tag Team Match on RAW after she teamed up with Dolph Ziggler to take on Asuka and Drew McIntyre.

The two women continued to show why they’re horsewomen, especially after Becky Lynch's break due to pregnancy and Charlotte Flair's absence because of an injury. Bayley and Asuka put on a good match before Bayley’s Extreme Rules competitor Nikki Cross showed up to distract The Role Model and allowed Asuka to pick up the victory.

The women of WWE are doing an incredible job at the moment and have proven to be the company’s biggest assets during this pandemic. Bayley and Banks have been at the forefront of helping WWE put on the best shows possible while Asuka and Io Shirai aren’t too far behind!
