SmackDown had some fun segments this week

5 Things WWE SmackDown got right this week (Nov 27, 2020)

WWE Survivor Series had some good matches that allowed both the brands of WWE to showcase their talent. While the men’s Team RAW walked all over Team SmackDown during the show, the women of Team RAW also managed to nudge out the Blue brand.

However, The Street Profits, Sasha Banks, and Roman Reigns all managed to score victories for SmackDown during the night to earn the brand a lot of respect.

This week, we expected Reigns to address his current situation with Jey Uso who led Team SmackDown to a loss at Survivor Series but helped Reigns overcome Drew McIntyre.

That wasn’t all, as Daniel Bryan once again set his sights on the WWE Intercontinental Champion. Kevin Owens found himself in a big match at the end of the night, while Sasha Banks finally managed to get back at Carmella after weeks of being attacked by her.

All that and much more was on offer during this week’s show, and we will look at the five things SmackDown got right following Survivor Series.

The biggest match of WWE Survivor Series saw Universal Champion Roman Reigns compete against WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. While it seemed like McIntyre had the upper hand in the final moments of the match, Jey Uso appeared to distract and then attack McIntyre to help Reigns win the match for SmackDown.

This week, SmackDown opened up with Uso hyping up Reigns’ victory over The Scottish Psychopath. However, The Tribal Chief interrupted Uso and walked out to show the WWE Universe a video package of Uso’s failure at Survivor Series.

Reigns questioned Uso as to why he got involved in the main event when he’d been asked to leave the building following his embarrassing performance for Team SmackDown. Reigns claimed that Uso had embarrassed the entire family by not garnering the respect of his team at Survivor Series.

Uso was left heartbroken and decided to take out his anger at Otis who came out for his match against King Corbin next. Uso attacked the big man with a steel chair, taking him out of action for the night and ending the first segment of SmackDown.

This was well done by the creatives as we watched Reigns turn 180-degrees after embracing Uso at Survivor Series following his assist. Reigns came out strong once again while making Uso suffer even more. It will be great to see what this new storyline leads to.

#4 Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode finally make their mark on WWE SmackDown

In October, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode managed to defeat The Street Profits on WWE SmackDown after the team made their move during the WWE Draft. Before that, the two men had won a match together back in March following which Roode was forced to take a break.

This week on SmackDown, the two heels finally got a big match as they faced the SmackDown Tag Team Champions in a non-title match. Ziggler and Roode claimed that no one deserved the titles more than them.

The action was fast-paced from the beginning, and Montez Ford went for a Frog Splash early on. However, Ziggler rolled out of the way in time to save himself from any damage and left Ford in a heap instead.

The Champions fought back with some big moves including a Spinebuster followed by a Frog Splash to Roode, but Ziggler managed to break up the pin. In the final moments of the match, The Glorious One rolled up Ford to pick up an unclean victory for his team.

While Roode grabbed Ford’s tights in the pin, the heel team still has a victory under their name and will most likely get a Championship match against The Street Profits in the weeks to come. This will help Ziggler and Roode finally make a mark on SmackDown and likely rise up the ranks once again.

#3 The Mysterios help Murphy defeat King Corbin on WWE SmackDown

After not having to compete against Otis earlier in the night, King Corbin caught up with the Mysterio family on WWE SmackDown and made fun of them for believing in Murphy. Corbin also questioned Dominik Mysterio’s ability in the ring, which led to a match between Corbin and Murphy later in the show.

While the action kicked off pretty normally, The Mysterio family decided to help The Juggernaut in the contest. Dominik, Rey, and Aalyah played major roles in distracting The King and forcing him to pull off some attacks.

Corbin caught Murphy with the Deep Six, but Mysterio distracted the referee, something that helped Murphy recover. A distraction from Dominik allowed Murphy to hit the Bicycle Kick, following which he pinned up for the victory as the referee did not see Dominik knock Corbin’s leg off the rope.

Corbin demanded a rematch for next week's SmackDown, promising that he’d do more damage to Murphy.

This wasn’t a great match by any means, but it helped progress the story between Murphy and The Mysterios. It seems like Murphy has won the entire family’s hearts in a very short time, and they are ready to help him out in any situation. While Murphy and The Mysterios looked like the heels on this week’s SmackDown, it will be interesting to see what they can do next week when Corbin comes more prepared.

#2 Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan impress on WWE SmackDown

While many believed that Daniel Bryan would be entering the Universal Championship picture on WWE SmackDown, he was more focused on getting his hands on the Intercontinental Championship instead.

Sami Zayn complained that Bryan did not deserve another shot at the title since he’d already been defeated by him at WrestleMania 36. However, Bryan shut up The Critic of Critics and took the upper hand in the match early on.

Both men delivered some great moves, following which Zayn caught Bryan with an impressive Brainbuster on the ring apron. He almost picked up the count-out victory, following which he got a near-fall after hitting the Blue Thunder Bomb.

Bryan managed to lock in the Yes Lock, but Zayn made his way out of the ring and tried to run. The two men ran around, following which Zayn managed to make his way back to the ring just in time for The Planet’s Champion to get counted out.

This was the best match of the night and it was great to watch Bryan and Zayn compete once again on SmackDown. Zayn is severely underrated, and he showed his potential against Bryan to a great degree.

After the match, Zayn made fun of Apollo Crews backstage on SmackDown but got caught by Big E in the process. Big E reminded Zayn that one wrong move would cost him the title, signaling towards a rivalry between the two men.

#1 Kevin Owens enters the title picture on WWE SmackDown

After Daniel Bryan’s match with Sami Zayn on WWE SmackDown, Jey Uso caught the Planet’s Champion backstage and beat him down until Kevin Owens intervened and pulled him off. KO then stood up to Roman Reigns and Uso and warned him for his actions.

Owens and Uso competed in a match and the newly turned heel trapped KO’s arm in the ropes and tried to injure him. However, the former Universal Champion broke free to begin his own offense.

However, the damage done to KO’s arm started working in Uso’s favor as he was unable to pull off a few moves cleanly. Uso went for the Uso Splash, but KO got his knees up in time to do enough damage to The Tribal Chief’s follower. This led to Uso grabbing a steel chair and causing a disqualification in the process.

KO hit a Stunner and then beat down Uso himself, sending a message to Reigns and Paul Heyman in the process. The Prizefighter demanded that Reigns face him, leaving a huge window of opportunity open for both men.

KO’s last singles title match came against Kofi Kingston last year. Since then, the former Universal Champion has been competing in the mid-card. It’s great to see him progress to the main event picture in place of Bryan as SmackDown can protect Bryan for an even bigger rivalry with Reigns later on. We could even end up watching KO and Bryan team up to face Reigns and Uso in the months to come.
